Honda Fit GP1 - Drop in fuel efficiency

Riri

Question

Hi

I am not well versed in mechanical / electrical issues hence looking for some advice.

I am running a Honda Fit GP1 2011 and currently clocked in around 160,000 km. The car was doing approximately 13 - 14km /L in colombo and 16km / L or more on the expressway

In December I did a tune up at Stafford and changed all plugs *( purchased at Te*k M*t*rs). Before the tune up I did my service at Ar*b*an M*t*rs) and we were using 10W oil. At stafford they changed it 0w.

Since the tune up I run almost over 5000km but efficiency has dropped down to 9km /L in colombo

Any idea what should be checked? And where i can take it to?

I showed it to Stafford and they say nothing is wrong and they are clueless

For starters 0W and 10W has no (strong) bearing for you living in Sri Lanka. The W stands for Winter. What that number shows is the viscosity of the oil when the temperature is cold.

My guess is that you did not let the ECU relearn. Once the fuel and intake systems were cleaned up and the spark plugs were replaced, the engine got better/with more fuel, air, etc....now the ECU doesn't know what to do with it because it is still running on what it learned with the old condition. So your ECU needs to relearn. Depending on the car, this can require the car to just sit in idle for X minutes whilst doing things like turning on and off the AC,revving up to a certain RPM, etc..during that time or drive the car for Y km. Sometimes, you need to initiate the reset and relearn process (depending on the car, it can range from disconnecting the battery to doing a funky sequence of pressing/depressing buttons and switching on/off the car. Of course you can always connect a terminal and remap the whole thing.

If not, the car will eventually learn itself, but how long that would take depends on how much you drive and how you drive.

So...Stafford can be quite right in saying there is nothing wrong with the car and it just needs to relearn.

Of course, there is the off-handed chance that:

1. There is something undetected in your car, and now, with the engine running better, the symptoms are adding on.

2. they totally screwed up the tune-up or the parts you got were crap :)
