Alfa Romeo 8c Spider

Hmm.... unquestionably looks very good, but I think the coupe looks better somehow....

So do I. But then, I generally prefer coupes over convertibles anyway.

Nice one i think its rear wheel! drive and Jeremy Clackson told that he is nursing a semi just by looking at it!

Jeremy said that about the coupe.

Here's what JC had to say about the Copetizione Coupe, after being refused a drive by Alfa. :D

"...But the prize for swivel-eyed lunacy goes to Alfa Romeo, which has just started to build its new £100,000 8C. What this is, most of all, is a public-relations exercise. Only 500 will be made, and the idea is that we all gasp with admiration at Alfa’s genius. You’d imagine, then, that it would be keen for the likes of me to have a go, so that I can tell the world just what a marvellous car it’s created. Sadly not. It says all 500 have been sold already, mostly I suspect to people who’ll simply lock them away in air-conditioned bunkers and never drive them.

Shame, because this is the car I was most looking forward to driving in 2008. First, it’s an Alfa Romeo, which, if you’re a disciple of all things motoring, is like the love child of every god there ever was. Lamborghinis are all right if you want to show off. Alfas are for people who don’t.

Second, this is one of the most beautiful cars I’ve ever seen. Ferrari, of late, has forgotten the importance of style. Its cars are no longer pretty. This is. So pretty in fact that in metallic cherry red, on 20in wheels, it makes my hair start to itch and my knees stop working properly.

And then, to justify the price tag, there is the technology. It has the same 450bhp 4.7 litre V8 that you’ll get in Maserati’s new coupé, and the body is made from carbon fibre and draped over a steel spine. The result is strength, lightness and speed. Sure, Nissan’s GT-R will be faster, but that’s like being married to Keira Knightley and then being jealous of someone who’s married to a horse with a first from Oxford.

Inside, you have carbon fibre seats clad in Ferrari leather, simple old-fashioned dials and a sense that all is well in your little world. This could be one of the great cars. Designed by enthusiasts and styled by gods. It’s only a shame I’ll probably never find out because it’s being marketed by absolute morons...."

very tasteful :)

(though it could have done without the American flag fluttering! <_< i guess we all know where they wanna sell this then.. )

Bit boring, honestly. What good is a promo for a sports car with with a 450hp engine on the winding mountain roads when the cars look like they are being driven by grandma? That said, the cars themselves do look very good. I'm starting to agree about JC about Alfa's marketing folk tho :)

Personally, this promo is a waste of money. Its not going to convince anyone to get a 8C. Everyone already knows it LOOKS good. They aren't even shooting for exclusive when they show two of them on an otherwise deserted road. Too bad really, the presentation other than the way the cars move was pretty good. But a little harder driving and even some engine noise would have centered the focus better.

Agreed it's a bit boring. But I guess it's aimed at the type of clientale who can afford 175k Euros. That said the hard driving is always there on reviews. Will tryt to get a vid.

JC is very bitter coz Alfa refused a car to Top Gear. They are (500) all pre-sold and TG is well known for returning the car broken. They just cannot afford to take that chance. Just imagine Ralph Lauren, Jay Kay or the Sultan of Brunei getting a crapped up car :D !

The Spider order books opened yesterday. I'm waiting to see how fast this 500 will go. I really won't be surprise if JC sells his Gallardo and gets a Spider :) .

Yes the 8C is spearheading the re-entry into the states. It will be 2010 though when they go in with a complete range. Not the ideal time though with the US in recession and the dollar dropping like a bomb.

Of course you and JC do have a point though.....poor marketing is almost embedded in Alfa DNA

However looking at the way Fiat CEO Sergio Machionne has turned Fiat around from near bankruptcy to the fastest growing brand in Europe and one of the most profitable, it's likely that this time things could be different.

He's gone on the say that Alfa is the current brand that's hot on the revival list. After that it will be Lancia.

A few harder drives. But I guess no one ever got to really thrash it around yet as all the tests were at Bolocco - Fiat's test track. CAR drove one along with a 430 Scuderia and Maser GT from Modena to Monte Carlo. About 3 issues back awesome story.

seemed a tad bit skittish in the wet and evne in the dry it came of looking rather playful didn't it

Typical Alfa I would say. Lots of drama and that takes getting used to. Btw in the CAR magazine story the Alfa never let the Scuderia out of sight eventhough they both understandably left the Maser GT far behind. So it must be v quick despite the drama.

Bit OTT for my liking but the GTA is out next year and should look something inbetween the standard car and this. Spec is said to be 500bhp and 100kg less that the standard.

wasn't it a limited 500 car run??

so a new batch will come out in GTA guise is it??
