Hello,

I am planning to buy a charade 32-9xx or 64-

89 model G100 above

Is it a good buy?

Is it worth buying the car? fuel efficiency? spare part costs?

If I am not mistaken, the G100 still has the Guinness World record for the most fuel efficient mass produced vehicle in the world.

Having said that, Finding a Car that will hold up to It's reputation is another problem. Older Daihatsu's have been seen with Corrosion probs if not looked after.

The non turbo models will feel slow if you don't rev to the proper RPM before changing gear.

A good condition diesel turbo 1.0 Will make any 1.5 petrol car feel like a moped.

There are Daihatsu specialists for parts in Kohuwala and "watte" not any differant in prices when compared with any other jap car.

The Agency has been taken over By a reputed company in the IT industry and are trying to get back the market lost by the previous agent' who ran the show like a Rural Co Operative shop.

As my friend above states, the charade has it's pro's

Well fuel wise the diesel non turbo may do mroe than 10km/l (depending on engine condition)

0 to 60 in 60 for non turbo diesel, turbo diesel and petrol versions faster

id suggest if you are going for one consider either the turbo diesel or petrol version

also must point out that parts are rare 'in the wild' hopefully the agents may be helpful

spare parts - there are a couple of places.. (forgotten the names) but theres a place in GIG building..

I used 2 have 1 way back but it was a peroll. Good car. I think same car was named as Toyota sumthin. Can rev up insanely but no rpm meter. Only prob is that there's no thread 4 da oil cap to be fited. So everytime when I rev hard it comes off. Good space hatch when da seats taken down. Good in fuel. Better dan a maruti of course.

we had one from 91-97. Diesel non turbo 32 sri 3450 red/blk

awesome fuel economy! it was cheaper than going in the bus per Km.. until we had to replace T-belt, injectors, do an engine overhaul and numerous CV joints.

it had an annoying problem with the fuel pump allowing air in. I had to remove hose, pump and seal the hose with finger (bad valve) and even sometimes siphon with mouth if it had been parked for a while.

all in all.. great cheap car but suspension components are not hardy enough for SL roads (and my driving).. I have a ton of fond memories of this car

Does anybody know the current going rate for a Turbo Diesel ?

I think the G11 was a bit more hardy than the G100 at least when it came to suspension

A good question. I wish I knew.

One point I'd like to make (to the original poster) is that this vehicle uses a very small engine - in my personal opinion, small engine cars tend to experience a lot of stress compared to vehicles with larger engines, and particularly when you consider the age (the vehicle would be over 10 years old) one has to think carefully before buying such a car.

Also, again, spares are hard to find - some things (e.g. timing kit) can be got, but engine parts, for example, are rather hard to find

Personally I'd recommend the original poster get any vehicle he is trying to buy, inspected, before he purchases it

I did own one of these cars, and it was not a pleasant experience at all. True, in my case, the vehicle I purchased was old and in somewhat poor state so I can't really blame the manufacturer.

Couple of years ago when I was looking for a car to buy I was specifically looking for one of these. But all the examples I came across were quite poor (a lot of engine vibration). I came accross a fairly good G11 Diesel but was not satisfied with the body condition.

I was thinking about getting one of these for my sister which is why I was interested in knowing the cost ?

I didn't realise there were problems obtaining parts especially because I remember this vehicle being quite popular.
