Snow Rallycross

"Salsa MR" and I had some fun at a snow rallycross last weekend. Four to six inches of snow over a good two inch sheet of ice. As long as you were in the deep snow traction was good, but where the snow had been cleared by cars it was like a skating rink. Later in the day when it warmed up the cars broke through the ice and we saw some dirt! The Evos loved the dirt! :)

Sorry, the camera guy didn't get much of the other cars, just our two rally queens:

2009 Winter racing has begun!

The Monticello Motor Club had time trials on their unplowed track last Saturday. First few laps were awsome where the snow was still nice and hard on the track, but after a few laps the corners got very icy.

Video a friend of mine took in a Suby 2.5 RS

any non AWD cars dare ot show up?

There were a few FWD cars, some were rally prepped. Those didn't do too badly but can't compare to even the stock AWD cars. Some dude showed up in an M3 and got stuck on the reccy run!

P.S , OT : interesting site you have there! :)

Glad you like it :D

why am i not suprised that the RWD's struggled

aside from the light weight Escorts etc, its hard to imagine how some of those rally drivers of yore managed to cope...

i think i had the pleasure of meeting a cousin of yours [P.K ~ now that man can snap a picture! :) ] - when he mentioned that he can a relative with an Evo, i jumped to the conclusion that it might be you - so looks like i've gotten it spot on!

i can see one advantage of driving on snow! the more the hood scoop on your impreza gets packed with snow the faster you'll go

Haha... you would think so, but with packed snow interfering with the airflow the intercooler is less efficient.

Can't think of any cousins with the initials P.K.

very nice mate...looks like fun :)

i wish we could drive in the snow in SL...then again, not really...cos that would mean cold weather...i prefer our sunny paradise instead...

im glad you think so mate!

with an fwd car its not really fun at all. me n my mate had a crash y'day tyring to turn at a junction on 6" deep snow

imagine how our poor drivers would cope with a sudden snowfall on their bald tyres
