GMI
To replace normal reverse, stop, tail, turn signal light bulbs etc. Has anyone bought these locally ? Thanks. Here the automotive LED’s are pretty much expensive. Therefore I bought 3V high bright LED’s from Pettah for Rs.22- each and replaced my parking lamps (used a resister). You can solder suitable holders to suite any vehicle. -GMI

GMI
GIM, What is the resistance of the resistors you used? Did u use normal once or once with a higher Wattage? 500 ohms 1W resistors
dhp
What is the resistance of the resistors you used? Did u use normal once or once with a higher Wattage? resistance and wattage depends on the source (battery) voltage, forward current and voltage of LED(s) used. You just need 2 equations V=IR and P=VI to calculate the resistance and power dissipation rating. For turn signals you should use an electronic flasher (instead of a thermal/mechanical). Putting a huge resistor is also a quick and dirty method. here is one I made; and my old turn signal retrofit from many years ago Edited May 21, 2008 by dhp

ferrarif50
hey dhp, how did u replace normal bulbs with these LEDs ???
dhp
in a very short summary; I heated the front lens and removed it. Then built an array of 32-37 LEDs on a circuit board(to fit the OEM housing) with resistors and diodes. Then I put it back together. Of course its a lot harder in to heat and separate the lenses without getting hairline cracks and deciding the brightness levels for park vs brake. Then I attached tap-splice connectors so the end user can easily connect them (I did these tail-lights for another maxima owner) IF any of you guys start on an LED project, lemme know..I might be able to help out with some resources. The might be ok in small parking light applications. Also I didn't see an mcd rating per LED.

charitha19
shipping to SL is a little costly. i have replced all builbs with LED direct fit.. the break lights are 64 LEDS per bulb super bright red. turn ones are 24 LEDS a bulb. i shipped to US and got it down from a person coming to SL from EBAy.
