Yokohamas- Advice Needed

gunat

Question

Hey Guys,

Looks like i'm due for a new set of tires in about 1-2 months...

Currently i'm running on Japanese BG's Turanza directionals 195/60 R14...

While they were great tires, i've found the compound a little soft, and the front tire wear on the GT has been quite excessive...

I know that UniMo has started the agency for Yoko's in SL- does anyone have experience buying semi-performance tires from them?

If anyone has suggestions for other alternate (good) tires for a semi-performance car...pls add...

cheers

v

yeah dude...they have 15"....but not 195/60 R14's....! My luck...

Hi Guant,

Real pity you can't source a set of Dunlop SP's for your ride, I have some very fond memories of the set of SP's that used to exist in my car, and I am surprised they don't have your profile because my rims are 185/60 I think and I am sure they were sourced in SL, as they came with the car when I bought it (Sorry I am not sure of the exact size since I only actually drive the damn thing for around 3 weeks a year !!).

When I got the car, the previous owned had replaced the front tyres with 2 new tyres of a brand called Federal. and the rear had 2 very worn out Dunlop SP Sports. Now a friend of mine rather ignorant of the fact that the rear tyres were extremely worn (and when I say worn I mean millimetres of tread left needed near immediate replacement) decided to take the car out for a spin and the stupid moron out of all his excitement decided to take a 90 degree turn at close to 100Kmph ........ and uptil the moment he actually took the turn I thought he was gonna break to slow down !!!. And I was shouting...... "yakooo no tread on the rear tyres !!! and I think he panicked a bit too ..... but by this time already half way through the turn and I was sure the car was going to over steer and us loose control....... But not even tyre squeal man ...... nothing ... rock solid, I felt embarrassed for even panicking he he.

Needles to say I was quite impressed by those tyres.

i just put on a pair of turanzas for my office car last month. they have jap and indonesian made. is there any difference?

I, for one am willing to pay that extra to get the japanese tires, just because i feel i can be confident that the quality standards are strictly adhered to...

All in all, if it a set of tires that your company is paying for, i wouldn't be too worried...so long as they're a decent set...

For sure, they're good tires.

Every OTHER size is available but my specific size...they even had 185/60 R14....but not 195....

Have you considered Goodyear tyres? Especially their Eagle range. They are supposed to be really good tyres, and they perform quite well too.

Eagle F1's, is what you're refering to, i suppose- i've not a single good thing about those tires; they wear unevenly, and wreak havoc on the suspension...

Really? Madmax likes them. The pulsar has a set on, and I know he used them on his MILs E200. I like them, but really lack any sorta knowledge on the alternatives  I had a set of Pirellis I got from Amila's for the Cali, those were pretty good. Otherwise, not much tire knowledge.

Eagle F1's are supposed to be really good tyres here in the uk, maybe they arent that well suited to SL roads??. Check out the NCT range, the NCT 5 is supposed to be a good all round performer.

I've had 3 different owners (evo+SIRs) users tell me not to touch them- including one of the SL racing drivers. They're not suited to our roads, and unless you drive on smooth surface 100% of the time, the suspension takes a massive beating.
