Ford Laser 1.5l

Hi everybody

My company is offering a fully maintained ford laser 2001 manual full option 1.5L for about 1.3 million. My question is this car worth it? My experience with Ford is nil so any help here is appreciated.

For example how are parts? How expensive is it to maintain? More importantly how does it drive compared to a similar spec Japanese car? Also how are resale values?

Thanks in advance for any help!

First of all welcome to AL forums. Believe its the current market price for the car so it should be ok price wise.

The best persons to answer the question on parts and maintenance would be the guys at the MFOC, so I'm leaving that to them.

Hi Yasitha, my aunt bought the same car you've refered to in 2002, and she has been very happy with the car and the agents since. Sadly David Peiris Motor Company are no longer the agents but I believe they do carry out services etc on the fords.

The car itself is solid and drives very well, the suspension is good and overall a dependable car. (Provided it's been looked after  ) You can expect around 9km/l in the city and about 14 outstation. (1.6 would do more)

I totally endorse a ford to anyone as its a very good car, but sadly many of our people don't se it as that.

Well thats to do with the car. The price youre getting it at seems worth it. I'm thinking you can expect to resell for around the same price...or slightly more..........pls anyone correct me if i'm wrong.

yes the car is dependable as someone says if looked after properly which i am sure u will do.. the price seems very fair to me again have to check the condition. u could proberbly bargain as sadly FORD's havent taken off in SL and as a MFOC member this is indeed heart breaking.. parts wise ur normal day to day running repairs can be done quite easily and parts are avalalble... however some orginal parts costs a little more than ur average toyota or a nissan might cost.. but then again its a FORD :D

engine wise its quite hardy...

so go for it

Hi

Welcome to the club- Fiest that’s a very good deal to get a 2001 model for that price. Both Ford & Mazda have the same engines and it’s only the exteriors differ- I personally prefer the Ford exterior compared to the Mazda.

The fuel consumption should be well as it’s a 1.5 some where around 9. – 10 if the condition is right. Parts are available but not as common as a Toyota – If u like to go for a check up take it to Papiliyana Junc to a place called mazna motors speak to Lalith and mention that you got his details from Autolanka

Driving is far more pleasurable than most standard Jap cars in my opinion. (Not trying to start an argument here guys ) maintenance is just the same as other cars if u take care of her she will take care of u

Hope it helps – else drop me a mail to [email protected]

Thanks guys. Well I could have gotten this cheaper, but thats too late now.

I will be paying about 1.3 for this. I havent examined it in detail yet but i've ridden in it with my MD and it was ok. My issue now i financing it thru a lease cos valuations might be low.

Anyhoo thanks for the advice. Ill keep u guys posted.

Well I got the car...and she handles beautifully. Pickup is great especially on the higher gears, surprisingly. Lower gears are OK i guess.

Some touch ups required, all of them cosmetic. A few scratches and a small dent on the bonnet means that a new coat of paint might be needed in a few months time. Also a good spot of interior cleaning would do no harm.

You were right driving is far more pleasurable than a Jap/Indian car (Think Nissan and Toyota). WOnder where the LAser is manufactured though? I heard its in Japan?

Anyway thanks for the help.

Congratulations on the new purchase.

Really happy to hear that you are having a great time with her.

The interior clean is not too much of a task there are several places and most of the big ones are good.

Dents are a problem- hard to drive in SL with out having 1 dent at least. Well the car is manufactured in Japan for your info.

Please feel free to drop me a mail if you have any issues or need some advise – also now u can join the Mazda & Ford club- we are planning a fun rally and will keep u guys posted.

Enjoy & look after her

The ford Lazer is a Mazda Familia/323 in different clothing :) As some may know Ford owns a big stake in Mazda, and rather than have a seperate company to manufacture models specific to the Asian market, Ford has relied on Mazda to do the honours for them and use their world famous brand name.
