Vigorcomp unfortunately this is a dead forum when it comes to double cabs. Your topic will most likely go unanswered. This forum is mainly for people with heavy pockets who drive cars and jeeps only. You will also find those who spend millions on restoring old scrap metal purely for the joy and fame but not ones who use utility vehicles such as double cabs. Questions on utility vehicles such as double cabs therefore have no chance here. Once I remember I wanted to get a feedback on the fuel consumption of Nissan D21 and D22 double cabs. Despite a couple of reminders, it went completely unnotices in the eyes of the forum members. Hard luck mate!

You haven't been keeping up with Velocity's utility vehicle adventures, have you? Just coz no one had any feed back for you on what you wanted, doesn't mean the same for everyone. Its not like Nissan double cabs are filling the road and users are plentiful. You play with rare models, you take your chances. And if this was a forum for people with heavy pockets, then I wouldn't be on it, coz my pockets are pretty damn light!

You know mate, Vigorcomp had been a member of AL for a lot longer than you have, despite the fact that he has a low post count, so I dont think you need to tell him about the make up of the forum.

Generally a reason for a question going unanswered are either because it has been discussed before (which can be ascertained by using the search tool) or because nobody who can provide a good answer has seen the thread yet. If you keep the thread going by occasionally putting up a reminder post, someone will likely come across it and do the needful, it's just a matter of being a tad bit patient.

As for your statement that people in these forums don't use double cabs etc thats patently untrue! my daily driver is a '93 Toyota Hilux. Besides, plenty of members, like Ripper, Velocity are big fans of double cabs.... so i think it's unfair and, personally speaking, just a little bit offensive of you to make statements like that.

If i'm not mistaken there is a 1997 model L200 on the autolanka classifieds at the moment. But if you are after a brand new one with English numbers this probably won't be the kind of thing you are looking for.

I've always thought very highly of the L200, though the Hilux is probably a more capable vehicle and the Isuzu more fun to drive (though very bumpy) the L200 is the one that sat in the middle with the Nissan (though thanks to UM's success in marketing the L200 to government departments the L200 is definitely more popular).

One thing I would say is not a lot of these Brand New cars were purchased by private buyers so the mileage will be high !

My household actually owns a 2007 model Mitsubishi L200 with a D4D common rail diesel engine sold as the Warrior in the UK. Good fun to drive, no problems whatsoever, we get about 30 MPG from it

Have to Disagree with that – My pockets are really small and the guys in the forum have helped me out in many occasions – thanks to all. Sorry to hear that yours was not looked in to but there may be several reasons which other have posted.

I drive a basic car and I’ve been a car person – I am some what knowledgeable on Mazda’s & Fords – thus can not comment on the L200, in fact I too am looking at a 4x4 and L 200 so it’s an open thing.

He he he I got you guys talking! :D About 10 responses to my quote and only one response on the L200

This sadly is true, may I kindly request everybody to pay more attention to the original posters questions than to L Board's reply to it ! I mean in the end he just basically made a comment, which is his own view, does not have to be true or false !

If you have any useful information for him, please post as well. I have no experience with the D21 or the D22.

Machan is this called the SPORTERO ( The New Shape One ) or the Old Shape One.

I have been looking at the New Model Single Can and It carried the 4D56 engine which makes it a bit underpowered.

For Reviews check

http://www.overlander.com.au/vehicle_tests.../4WD-Comparison

Mitsubishi Triton GXL ($39,990)

The Triton is a new-age ute and, in this company, it feels it. But its also the most expensive contender here, yet is it arguably the poorest in terms of equipment. And the engine, while recently revised, is starting to show its age.

The engine in question is Mitsubishi's long-serving 3.2-litre Di-D, now with common-rail injection (to meet the now mandatory Euro 4 emissions standards) and good for a claimed 118kW/343Nm. It's the biggest engine here and, along with the Ford, the most athletic performer. What is less pleasing is that it lacks the refinement and polish of the Ford or the Ssangyong's engines, or even that of the Nissan. In some ways it isn't even as refined as the Mahindra's modest offering.

But it does get on with the job with excellent flexibility off idle and a strong mid-range. It also has the second-best ADR fuel figure, a statistic backed up by a second place in our fuel consumption testing.

The real appeal of Triton lies however with the fact that it's a modern platform evidenced by the way it feels on the road, especially its steering and suspension performance. Compared to its immediate competition here, the Ford and Nissan, it feels tight and precise, where they feel vague and loose.

This modernity carries over to a cabin that while sparsely appointed (it's the only one with vinyl flooring rather than carpets) has a modern, ergonomically sound feel. It's still not as big and as airy as the Mahindra but it's the only one of the three Japanese utes here with a back seat big enough for three adults. On the safety front, driver and passenger airbags are standard while ABS is optional.

Obvious cost cutting comes in the form of road-pattern tyres that have the lowest speed rating of any on offer here, including the all-terrain tyres on the Ford, Nissan and Mahindra. The tyres feel poor on the road as well and are the prime reason why the Triton, as standard, isn't too flash off the road either.

In terms of practicalities, the Triton also doesn't fare all that well with the equal lowest towing capacity, the second-lowest payload and only a mid-sized tray. Good thing then that it has so much driver appeal.

For that matter, my main drive was a couple of Isuzu double cabs in the early 2000s too. Had one until two years ago.

Ah yes i remember that one. The Rodeo version right. Used to love that model.

Hey Guys,

I too think its wrong to say AL is for those with heavy pockets coz if so then i cant even be here like some other guys, coz pockets are pretty darn light.

Anyway that said, I have ben a frequent visitor to AL and received answers to alot of my questions through these very same discussion boards, I must say i never contributed though until today.

I drive a Nissan D21 96 model, I must say its a vehicle that suprised me, its not the fastest (i guess thats coz cabs are not meant for so much speed as they are for power) it certainly holds its end in terms of power and comfort (in terms of a pick up)

My only problem is KMPL because i only get max around 7 or 8 it dropped to 5 at one time and I got the injectors replaced and pump serviced, but she still is a bit heavy on the juice, any idea why?

and recently i noticed that she runs through 3/4 of the engine oil from service to service which i do every 3000 km thought the engine is gone but it hardly smokes and still starts in one shot even in Nuwaraeliya was there a month back , she also takes very long to pick up? could any one of you help me with soem possible answers to these.

other than shes an angel, a very loud and beastly looking Angel. ,-)

also would you advise to replace engine with a TD27 Turbo unit, shes currently non turbo? what are your thoughts?

Answering the topic of the post, I feel 2.9 mil is about right for a price, but i dont know if its just me but the L200 is a bit bumpier in my mind compared to Toyota and Nissan Counterparts, mechanically ofcourse they are awsome and I can vouch for the 4D56 power units they run because I use a L400 with the same engine and boy does it fly!!!!!!

keep the injectors nice and clean though Mitsu's tend to smoke a little more if not.

I have done a full repair on my D21 over the past few months and overhauled everything except engine so if you would like any info regarding parts etc Maybe I could help.

one word of advise if you have problems with your startermotor replace with a D22 motor instead of a D21 works better the D21 starter is a bit of a problem child.

Bets Regards

to you all

Hey CrazyCarGuy,

Thats a good looking D21 you got there. Have been through a full restoration of a 50-xxxx Toyota LN85 in the past. From Exterior, Interior to Rancho Shocks and Armadillo bumpers. My father happen to import winch's so had one of those set aside too but had to leave the country for studies. So I do have my fair share of liking to the double cabs.

As some of mentioned above there are many current and past owners in the forum with banks of knowledge from Toyota's to Isuzu's, Nissan's to Mitsu's and even Ford's. I would love to see a new thread come up dedicated to Double Cab owners and admirers since we are stealing a Mitsu L200 thread.

As for some of the questions you have posted, if your engine is burning more fuel than usual even after an injector cleaning and the engine seems to be burning up engine oil it "could" be your engine is going through phase of under compression. That could be your answer for the low fuel figures. Right around 7-9 should be the avg. Also some engines tend to burn up some engine oil with inherited issues, like the Mitsu 4M40 and Isuzu engines. But in your case if it burns up a significant amount that "could" indicate possible under compression.

Also undercompression would not necessarily refrain your engine from firing up in cold weathers. So I would say best is to get a compression check done if possible and if it is under what it should be consider an overhaul or a new engine. Personally I prefer and overhaul if the engine is still a virgin. But if it has been through one already, I would rethink and probably settle for a reconditioned engine with much dislike. More or less those recon engines turn out to be worse nightmares than what we already have.

Its your call if you would like turbo unit in there or not. If speed and acceleration is what your looking for then go for one.

May be the more technically wise can clarify if a Turbo Engine and it's lifespan has an inverse relationship? Cos I feel like the ones with turbo's tend to wear off faster than the ones without. I could be wrong.

Hi CCG

i run a D21 2WD and i still get only 8kmpl. ia you air filter clean? blocked air filter does bring the millage down a bit from wut i know...like wut devaka said most likely its going towards under compression...

Hi Peri

Isuzu is a great double cab i have driven it several times as wel,it is good in fuel as well as good power, my Father in law had one till recently(252-xxxx)was doing 11-14 KMPL outstation, and company recently replaced those with Toyota Hilux he says he won't get more than 8 KMPL now and also pulling power of Hill Climb is too week than Isuzu.

thanks
