Hard To Accelerate, Maruti 800

Question

Posted

I find it difficult to accelerate the engine (Maruti 800, Carb) as soon as I start the engine in the morning.

But if I let it idle for few minutes (5 minutes or more), gradually it becomes ok.

Is this normal ?

After reading all your comments I think there is something else that I should mention here.

I can start the engine in the morning & in a traffic. But it is very difficult to start the engine after 10 minutes or more (after few miles run). But if I let the engine cool for 2 hours I can start the engine.

Does this related to acceleration problem?

something tells me its better to just take a back seat on this one and just have good laugh!

You crack me up man..back seat ,, excellent..... :angry-smiley-048:

ok ok , but seriously I am looking at getting a diesel car second hand / cheap to flog as daily "driver driven " car.

The bluebird eprise diesel looks ok? I like the one with the quad headlights but do these come in diesel?

Any idea of prices / fuel consumption of these diesels ?

what is a Cd 20 engine? is it a van engine?

Any other suggestions? Since I am generously built (read plump) I need a large car... .....any brand is ok. But budget needs to be below 1.5 mill.

Cefiro stays btw.

i think this has something to do with overheating....check the radiator and it's associates for blocks and leaks.

"Maruti 800 produces a power of 37 bhp at 5000 rpm" cant that be the case ?

i always knew maruti's produced such low figures. but that power band! man! i know diesels that turn faster than that

i'm sure you can justify the low engine speed with regards to durabilty. but i'm sure we can trade off a bit of that for horsepower

anyways mr. mjayanath i'm guessing your carbs are probably out of tune. those b*st*rds lose tune eventually

If all else check ok... maybe the ECU and/or Delco/distributor too can be a possible culprit...

Before my ECU died on me...i too had starting issue... especially after a bit of running. Once it was cooler all was ok... And sometimes it was completely random...

But the issues got worse overtime and finally it wouldn't start at all...

Got toyota to tow it and after checking it turned out to be the delco and the ECU...

Got both replaced and all was ok...

needless to say that.... however since he was very sure about the plugs and distributor and all electrics related to igniting the plug, I had to think of other possibilities...

I have replaced existing Nissan plugs with Bosch plugs.

One plug (removed) was full of carbon but other two were not that bad.

I shall let you know the outcome.

hmm...one fouled plug alone is more than enough to cause an engine miss...especially for a 3 pot motor with smaller displacement...

Normally plugs don't get "full of carbon" ... Either somebody replaced only 2 plugs before for some weird reason or that particular pot must be having some issue..

like worn rings/pistons or oil seeping in though the valve guides or summin like that...

plugs should've been your first "test" subject IMO

The technician who removed the plugs said no oil can be seen on plugs.

Acceleration problem solved to a considerable extent.

Thank you guys for your valuable comments! :):) :)

There are one or two drops of water seen on water pump seal.

Radiator water level drops after every run but not reservoir tank's level.

Radiator fan switches on when temparature gauge reaches 1/3, (but not half).

The previous owner simply mentioned that there is a overheating problem. (I replaced thermostat valve on radiator with a genuine one).

Is this water level drop in radiator is a sign of overheating?

When the engine runs for 10 min the radiator fan turns on(Electric fan), so it is also use some considerable amount of electricity. That might be the problem engine takes some time to start after engine used for about 10 minutes. Normally maruty has 30A battery and it doesn’t have sufficient power to start the engine when the radiator fan is on.
