Iam not sure why they are making the southern expressway a toll highway.

Doesnt it take away the whole reason for having an express way in the first place.

People will still use the old road and there will be traffic jams as iam sure people using the expressway everyday wont like to pay to use it.

I think the government should re-think this.

hmm i wonder how they'll catch us on the motorways. its not like they can sit on the hard shoulder and stop us like they may on a normal road. and i doubt they'll give a chase. though trying to outrun them on such good roads would be quite a thrilling prospect :P

under the emergency law they are authorized to shoot and ask questions later

i think 3 or 6 rupees a day is really good value for money on daily basis if u can get where u r going faster. plus think of all the fuel savings. considering a litre of fuel is around 100 rupees i'm sure the savings will be awesome. if people don't use it because of that tiny price they are just plain stupid

that rate is PER KM travelled , according the lin Ash put up

hence my previous question of "how are they going to calculate the toll" , instances where someone exists the highway without travelling the entire expressway end to end?

does that mean toll booths at every exit?

easy mate! they charge seperately at each tollway. you cant exit or enter anywhere else other than on an interchange. n the toll booths are set up after each interchange at the beginning of the next section. so we pay by sections. and we need not worry about traffic jams at toll booths cos the roads will be very wide and the barriers will be automatically operated.

and then moaning about the toll charges is a big palaver. think of it this way. if u get around 10/11km/l on normal roads. but when u maintain 70 constantly u could get around 14km/l and at a constant 90km/h u can get around 16km/l so u get over 50% mileage for each 100 rupees or so litre of fuel. so for once im with the government :)

Balls. I passed the junc twice yesterday. There wasn't even a machine or materials on site, much less people working.

I feel they should have continued the Marine Drive by putting up a bridge near Kleen Park, this would have been much better than the flyover ( My opinion only ) :D

i think there are lots of other complications like acquiring land involved with extending marine drive compared to the flyover

Yes do agree with you about the issues, but to really sort the traffic blocks the Marine drive will be ideal.

you got a point. i think security is a concern as well. expanding the marine drive will open another entry point to colombo. i was thinking the other day the whole one way system in colombo IMO got more to do with security than easing the traffic. what do you boys think????

if you ignore the relatively smooth traffic flow it still makes a very inefficient system to get from point to point. but after what you said it makes a whole lot more sense now. because its one way its easier to close the roads when a politico is popping to the shops for a pint of milk :D

Or Maybe they went hiding the moment they saw Peri coming down the Road... just to make us think they are not working.

Oh I just wish development work to be honest... at lest the top level initiation, then we have a starting point.

xXx, you got a valid point there. The whole road system is routed in a manner that could be controlled easily, probably due to the security concerns, keeping my fingers crossed for these restrictions to be lifted when the war is over... but who knows...
