Ooops! Topped Up Atf With Different Brand

eyepea

Question

Hi

Had Toyota DII ATF.

Recently after a repair, ATF oil was topped up (less than 1 litre).

Forgot it had Toyota DII and used Mobil (Can't remember the exact type)

Would this cause any problems?

Or

Is it not a big issue and I can continue to run until next ATF change?

:)

Thanks.

You should try to find exactly which kind it was. Different types have different friction points and they are not compatible with one another, unless it's specified.

If you're not sure, I'd recommend a complete fluid change given possibility that you can mess up your transmission.

As far as I know different brands of ATF are compatible with each other. Before the new fluid changing machines were available, ATF was changed just like engine oil and mixing of the old and the new happened. Not a problem if both the new and old fluid met the requirements of the car manufacturer.

I checked with the garage and the ATF used for topping up is 'Mobil Dexron III'

Wonder how compatibal it is with Toyota DII

Thanks.

Dexron II is compatible with III. So you're okay.

I misunderstood your original question. Different brand make no diff. Different types do.
