More Experience With Indian Alto

thusi

Recommended Posts

If one reads my last post 'Experience With Indian Alto', it is clear that I never said that anything about safety or comfort - I merely stated some things I experienced. That's why I said "I was fully aware of the features/benefits/disadvantages of the Alto....". But I guess anything is a good reason for those who are always ready to bash Maruti.

Since I never said Altos are superior or other cars are inferior or vice versa, I wonder how some came to the conclusion that there is an inferiority complex involved. May be I got this inferiority complex after I got the Alto ? Or is it the other way around - my inferiority complex forced me to buy an Alto? Had I continued to used my old Corolla, could I have escaped this fate ? Are there any shrinks in the forum who can explain it better ? ;)

Come to think of it, what could be the reason that for some forum users, 'Maruti' users are 'boys' while users of other cars are 'men' ? And why do some think that Marutis don't get stolen ? Why do some think that those who write anything good about Marutis are employees of AM# or at least paid by them to do so? Do these guys write such things due to a 'superiority complex' ? Shrink advice needed again ;)

I don’t have much to say as my stance on Maruti buyer has not changed much since we had this discusion few month ago. There are rational reasons behind buying a Maruti. Ignorance is certainly not one of them. People have different priorities and I think it is unfair to criticize them based on that. The gentleman who brought up the topic this time around clearly mentioned in his post the review is solely based on his personnel experience. The car suffices his set of requirements and unquestionably he’s a happy chapy. At no point I think he was trying to portray the Maruti’s as the ‘best’ car money can buy.

The irony I see is the people who think there a secret cult that conspirer (I just had to include that word since our great leader, MR uses it on an hourly basis these days) to promote Maruti’s have themselves formed an anti-Maruti cult. Every time the word Maruti pops up in a thread it is received by a barrage of sarcasm and criticism.

Lets face it lot of thing in this great land can be classified as ‘unsafe’, from taking public transport (I’m referring to buses here) to riding a tree wheeler to crossing the road using a pedestrian crossing. Yes, Maruti lacks some of the modern day safety features. They way I see it the decision to buy a Maruti is similar to the decision to go forward with a 3rd party insurance policy instead of full coverage.

What is this nonsense in talking about road coalitions involving Marutis? Haven’t we all seen bigger, better and more expensive cars getting into accidents and producing fatalities?

You have a point there mate... People buy what they can and what they want. It's there money and their choice. I personally do not prefer a Maruti, but then I don't like the Vios or the FB15 too... :)

Oh for the love of god, ENOUGH OF THIS ALREADY!

you made your point, YOU bought a maruti and nothing has gone wrong with it so good for you mate!! In case you havent noticed, this is primarily a forum for car Enthusiasts, and therefore cars whose primary purpose in life is simply to provide transport and nothing else, essentially cars that are interchangeable with domestic appliances, are ALWAYS going to recieve a bit of contempt, because thats how it IS! Also, as I pointed out earlier, Marutis arent the first cars members have been errm... unkind about. The Toyota Corolla was a favourite target not too long ago, but NOBODY BOTHERED... the corolla owners chuckled to themselves, we all had a good laugh, and we moved on... end of story. Here on the other hand, Maruti fanboys (im sorry, maruti fan-MEN) consider it nothing less than their DUTY to jump in and start mouthing off the moment their beloved chapathis are criticized even slightly... whats up with that? Hmm hang on, didn't someone mention an inferiority complex somewhere?

Also, the reason members make snide remarks about working for A_M_W is because certain people not too long ago made several posts that were really poorly disguised marketing attempts for marutis, those same people have now gone silent incidentally, but nonetheless whenever there is a passionate outburst of maruti championing, people tend to wonder a bit after the effects of that.

In conclusion, If you've bought a maruti and it serves you well, good on you mate. Some of us on this forum however will continue to believe that there are wiser ways you could have spent that (quite large nowadays) amount of money (which by the way is a FACT not just an opinion), and no matter how much you quote spec sheets, post links to indian websites or type till you've got sore fingers, we will continue to maintain that, just like you continue to maintain that you have a superb car. Also there will be instances where said superb car WILL be criticized, and if you decide to wade in guns blazing and colors flying to defend the honor of your pappadam, be aware that you will face a large amount of adverse opinion yourself, thats just the way it works. If you didnt rise to the bait yourself, there wouldnt be anyone arguing with you, it DOES take two hands to clap after all!

So do us all a favour and the next time you feel obligated to charge in to defend your maruti from the "superior car drivers", just........DONT. :)

i agree... however, since AL is open to all.. maruti owners also needs a place to dicuss their matters... but since the car is so superb i doubt that there is anything to complain...hmmm...

however, thoese should be posted on specific makes - Maruti.....

agree with supra natural in saying that in here most of us are always doing something to our cars...purly because we didnt buy our car just as a means of transport... if thats the case in solely my opinion here... no offence.. but we would all buy a maruti.....

If you read my posts really slowly and carefully you will see that I have never said that Alto is a "superb car" nor have I criticized any other car. Also, have I in any instance tried to defend Altos when others talked about lack of safety of lack of comfort ? Please check. I simply stated some stats I found myself. That's it.

Regarding the links to the Indian sites, there also, as I explained, I wanted to show the improvements in the newer/upcoming model when compared to older/existing Indian models we have. Those of you who took the effort to check them would've seen for yourselves. I never said they were the best cars or any such thing.

As per the forum disclaimer "...our forum is freely available to all members of the site ...", but just now only I came to understand that it is only for car enthusiasts, and not for those of us who own "cars whose primary purpose in life is simply to provide transport and nothing else, essentially cars that are interchangeable with domestic appliances" or "pappadams" and "boxes with wheels" as some called them. I apologize for posting my comments in this esteemed forum. BTW, this would not have continued this far had someone pointed this out in the first place that the forum is only for enthusiasts.

AL is open to all... but if you are looking for very positive comments i think u shoudnt post it as a general thing.... ratther make it for maruti specialists.....

I have to ask, why do you feel the need to shove your 2c in after EVERY SINGLE REPLY on a Maruti thread? do you actively want to stoke up the argument? or do you simply like drawing attention to yourself?

what does that post even mean anyway?

Those who call Marutis as "Papadams" and "Chapathis", better come up with a Japanese name.

dude, do these chapthi seats get heated when they see modified cars on the road ? cus these days im having lots of issues Altos and marutis honking behind, cutting to my side, blocking me, rev their cars at color lights, sometime i feel they might blow their engine cus of the sound coming from the elcardo exhaust are so loud

What I can see is some self-exaltation along with misinterpretation of the term "Car-Enthusiast".

............................

I have the same thoughts regarding some of those Three-wheeler drivers.

Now I understand that just like those who drive cars 'that are superior than Marutis' tend to scoff at Marutis, I have the same tendency towards Bajaj Three-wheelers.

Feel like I too have the habit of "Self-Exaltation" to some extent.

Even though i do not belong to this AL Anti Maruti cult.. i tend to agree with ya.. i'am facing the same issue with Marutis and Altos.. with some Hiace vans as well.
