topgear
Hey everyone! Been sometime ne! Last weekend, a cuz of mine (also looking for a mini) found this place at Kurunegala where there'z this guy who "joins" pretty much anything! :-) he had 2 lovely tiptronic Minis for 700k. both were already sold. When my cuz visited, the guy had been "pasting on" parts on 2 Town Ace Noahs and a Merc! :-) the guy had been kinda suspicious but eased out. Workmanship was excellent I heard! :-) But still, I'm taking you guys advice and not touching those stuff... To risky. Cant afford to have it impounded, nor spend time in jail!! But then again, I wouldnt mind a Merc... :-) hehe
pradfred
My experience ...... ..... Cheap & Fast = Not Reliable Cheap & Reliable = Not Fast Fast & Reliable = Not Cheap So take your pick. Be legal mates, it just ain't worth all the hassle of trying to save a few bucks. Life is short enough as it is
gunat
Theory on cut-butts/"Buds": Take a sheet of cardboard. Fold in the middle. unfold to original full size. Where does it bend without any effort? Right on the fold line. That's a cut butt car...you'll NEVER retain the original integrity, safety or strength no matter how much welding is used to join two parts. Not worth risking your life or the lives of others because its a cheaper option. Add legality and you really don't have one good reason to even consider... topgear
Hey everyone! Sorry to pull this up again! just wanted to update you guys. I didnt go for a mini coz u guys kinda freaked me out. But my cousin did. He now has a lovely black 1300cc Mini cooper tipronic. And now I'm kinda starting to loathe the thing coz did a lil driving and realized it's too small for me. Driving not too bad really. sitting on the passenger end is aweful! (I'm a bit on the taller side). So, no more mini for me! Also, with the drop in prices these days, I'd rather go for something newer. I kinda like the KE20 Corolla tho. Had one sometime back. lost about 40k on it. but no love lost. I might even go for one of em. We'll see how things go! Cherrz! Btw, There is a Mini ERA (1.3 turbo) for 1.5Mn. no books I hear. but it's an awesomely lovely lovely car!! terrabytetango
A friend of mine is currently restoring a KE20. The engine he has planned for it costs more than the car.

Like those old ford lasers and all... and itz not extreme performance I'm looking for ne,.. Hello, The best bet would be a Ford Escort Mk1 or Mk2 (60's and 70's 1600CC, pretty fast) You can pimp up those engines quite easily. I have seen a Mk1(2door) on AL for 350,000 a while ago. Thought it was a bargain. Later on if you managed to save up bit of money you can upgrade the engine. Mk1 and Mk2 nicely take the Honda S2000 engine, gearbox and ECU (US$3500) 260HP factory engine,Fastest 2L engine ever produced for a production car. If you google/youtube Escort with S2000 engines, you will get a good idea.

I doubt you can call it the fastest... i can think of 2 other 4 cylinder 2ltr engines (evo and sti engines) that do better than 260bhp.. Doesn't matter since the number is wrong anyway. 260 is not the factory number. Maybe after some playing around, but well, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_F20C_engine

No turbo or a supercharger As per wikipedia; The S2000 (F20C) engine won the International Engine of the Year award in the "1.8 to 2 litre" size category for five years from 2000 through 2004. I think this a good option for a cheap reliable fast car.....
