Yeah mchn and also the ViRS handles better than the ES 5 and ES1

Machan, but cant say Vi handles as much as ES5 , bcz ES5 comes with front and rear stabilizer bars in stock state where as the Vi never had that option. and also ES5 has ESP also together with EBD where the EK3 Vi or ViRS doesnt. So technically cant agree on that....but how ever i've experienced that Vi is slightly more comfortable with our local roads....over a ES... : ))

Technically all the Honda EFI engines are PGM-Fi...

But he said, its included, which doesnt make sense lol. Coz since 96+ almost all Hondas might have had EFI engines, irrespective of trims as Vi,ViRS ...etc :D

Yeah... ViRS comes with LSD ... ES3 (RS of the ES series) and ViRS with D17B comes with the LSD.....also some ViRS including Vi also comes as stock. I've test driven a Vi in SL was belong to a lady - manager @ HSBC wattala...she never knew wot her car had till i got da car in to my hand...it was a 1999 EK3,Vi with LSD and manual tranny. Luckily there are few Vi and ViRS in SL which came with LSD .....

ViRS specs could be seen here - http://www.cars-directory.net/specs/honda/...o/1998_9/12495/ . On that page LSD isn't listed as a factory option, only EGs had the LSD option according to that site. But anyway has anyone confirmed this by taking apart a gearbox?? Just curious... Anyway not D17B, D17A - which ES3 RS has ;)

And yeah ViRS has a rear sway bar like EG Vtecs, unlike EK3 Vi

Machan, those specs are can be seen on mostly on USDM and EU models....wot m refering is JDM and Asian Models.....if u can find a good Shop Manual of a EK series u'll defa get a good idea of it....yep... ES3s come with D17A1 , D17A2 , D17B series is for the asian market and JDM also....similarly ES5 came with D16W7 motor which very unique for the asian domestic models...even this engine canot be found in JDM , USDM or EU markets....only appeared in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Philipines only....which is a very unique engine specially developed for Asian country's enviornments....

to find whether the car has LSD, u will find a sticker tag at the driver's hand door stating "LSD INFORMATION" or else u really gotta drive and see...in a elevated road...

Yeah, I kno, info on wikipedia and other forums and all, most of the time differ & don't carry info of non-USDM markets. But the link I gave you is of JDM specs I think, for an example the EK3 ViRS edition wasn't available for USDM market, dunno about Europe. And catalogs - http://www.jdmchat.com/showthread.php?t=3158

So are all ViRS are LSD equipped??

If handling is what you are after, get an EK series Civic...Have a 2005 ES(D17) here and it feels heavy around tight corners(has good grip though). Front and rear anti-roll bars ;) , well it doesn't always mean great handling :)

how is the driving experince of LSD?

LSD doesnt come in handy at all in Sri Lanka....with these whether conditions and road condtions....LSD is useless...but on some occations like roads @ Kandy and some what at Malabe area.. u know elevated road condtions and hill kinda atmosphere....LSD does get better.... it only gives u more grip by converting the torque of the one side driven tire when its on skid or not touching the ground to enable the car to move....

ES1 2000 Manual mileage 110000 KM for 2.2 too much?

And what should I specifically look for EK3 VIRS Manual if I get hold of one? I am almost determined to find one.

Later I may go for a brand new CIVIC but I heard there are problems with fuel consumption in the newest model and it is Thai made!!!! ?????!

Can u tell us more abt this S1 & S2 drive options pls.

s1 and s2 driving options availble in virs and its d and s in a VI. please see the below article from vtec asia.

Honda programmed the Multimatic ECU to generally emulate the characteristic of the standard automatic gearbox for normal driving. When the the throttle is gently squeezed, the gearbox bites and the car moves off, gradually gaining speed while engine rpm slowly climbs. However, engine rpm will only climb to a certain rpm and will thereafter remain steady at that rpm. For most people, this will usually be ~2500rpm. The car will steadily - and not too slowly in fact - keep accelerating right up to around 90 - 100kph. Indeed for relaxed driving, one can be running the engine at no more than ~2500rpm all day and still be accelerating briskly, cruise around at speeds of up to 100kph, even overtake !

Multmatic Mode Selector Knob

'E' is for Economy

'D' (the dot) for Drive and

'S' is for Sports

A huge change comes during "performance driving". Honda equipped their Multimatics with three driving modes of E(conomy), D(rive), and S(port), selectable via a knob on the gearbox console. The main difference between the three modes is how high the rpms will climb at WOT and part-throttle. For best performance, obviously one should immediately switch the knob to 'S' mode.

Drive the 3-stage VTEC D15B with a Multimatic gearbox. Cruise leisurely at 90kph and when you need to overtake the car in front quickly, simply flick the dial to 'S' and floor the throttle. Engine rpm shoots up almost instanteously while the car's speed remains at around 90kph. This is the "clutch slip" phenomena of MMT that is much talked about. Once the engine's rpm reaches ~7000rpm, it stays there and the car now lurches forward, accelerating at a comparatively wild pace. 160kph quickly comes up on the speedometer with seemingly little or no effort. The engine may be 'only' 1.5l in displacement but with VTEC screaming in full glory at 130ps (for the 3-stage VTEC D15B), traditional concerns like "power band" or "flat point in the power curve" becomes totally irrevelant.

What actually happens at WOT with the Multimatic gearbox is the engine rpm surges up straight to the engine's max power point. Multimatic box slips the gear-ratio so that the engine revs pass all rpms below 7000rpm without driving the car much. The car's inertia and mass has little or no effect on the rpm climb because the car hardly changes speed, the gearbox acting like a flexible "rubber-band" that allows the engine to change rpm at will without little change to the speed of the car - almost as if the gearbox was running in neutral !! Once the engine rpm reaches ~7000rpm only then will Multimatic engage and transfer drive to the front wheels. This means at WOT, the engine hardly has to contend with pulling the car while at lower rpms - and lower power. It only starts to pull the car after it is screaming at 7000rpm and is delivering 130ps in its full glory
