Once 5 Rosa buses BY A JAPANESE DID NOT SHIP IN TIME HE SHIPPED SAME TO A ANOTHER IMPORTER IN SRILANKA FOR EXTRA 50000.00 YEN. SHIPPED MY 5 BUSES 5 DAYS LATER.AS THIS WAS BOOKED TO A TOURIST PROVIDER IN SRILANKA MUST COME HERE BEFORE 31ST MARCH TO GET THEIR TAX BENEFICIAL.

There is no need to go to Japan my experience is Japanese are more trust worthy than any other Asian exporters in Japan even Japanese exporters I have rejected documents due to C/R alterations bank detect then request from the L/C opener for further instructions.

Mr. Wije,

So the Japs didn't send your buses on time snd shipped em to someone else and yet they are trustworthy?

Something tells me that you haven't imported a single car in your life, let alone own one.

Keep on trolling.

TO FORUM MEMBERS,

I THINK BUYING A IMPORTED VEHICLE IN SRILANKA FROM A REPUTED DEALER YOU CAN INSPECT THE VEHICLE IF YOU WANT CAN DO A TEST DRIVE.

IMPORTER IN SRILANKA WILL HAVE AS THEIR CHARGES MINIMUM R50000.00 TO 150000.00 FOR A GOOD VEHICLE. YOU CAN FIND OUT BY REQUESTING FOR DOCUMENTS THEN COST VAT WHAT THEY HAVE PAID WILL REVEAL THEIR PROFIT NOT ONLY THAT IF THEY HAVE ADJUSTED THE MILEAGE BECAUSE EXPORT JAPANESE INSPECTION CERTIFICATE WILL GIVE ALL DETAILS OF KMs DONE.

SOME IMPORTERS UNDER INVOICE VEHICLES TO GET IMPORT TAX REDUCTION.

Wijesinghe.

OK I am in too. I want to buy either a AXIO or CIVIC. Is this the same dealer you previously told me about?

But the way car trade dealers act, I doubt whether they will reduce their cut significantly.

But my solution is not that impractical too. I have a person who is going to Japan soon. He is going there on 20th. I have some of my personal friends in that group outside the forum. I do not want people here to get involved in it as it will be misinterpreted as my own business. So please do not ask to get involved in that group. I just wanted to introduce the concept here and perhaps help to coordinate and lay down guidelines. I am very much eager to defeat these intermediates, who suck our money.

The simple logic is this. Now if the person in Japan tells us the FOB there with specifications of the vehicle, when we import and open an LC we know that there wont be any other overheads and additions to the price by third parties. For example person who goes to Japan agreed that he would keep maximum 100000 to 150000 per vehicle for his services. He is a well known person to us. If you all see the prices this online auction site the price of a G grade AXIO (condition 4.5) varies from 10000US$ to 13000US$. Probably we still can buy a car online but there is a drawback that we would not see that car. In addition there is a risk of doing online transaction and communication. So person who goes to Japan can act as the intermediate liaising the trade. I am sure if we have people who can help the person, who goes to Japan there will be cars for much lower prices than those in online auction sites.

I have another suggestion. Shall we all get together and do this? I reallydo not know exactly how to calculate the total cost of the vehicle. Shall we all get together and calculate rough estimate of the price of an import of popular models? We can calculate the average FOB of a car if we go through online auctions. We could get a quote of the depreciated CIF from agents. Then we all will know h ow much we can gain by direct importation.

Machang Kaushama,

I did some research past few weeks because i wanted to get an unregistered Axela if possible. I came across that auction site you mentioned and i've contacted two agents here in Sri Lanka and one direct Japanese exporter.

I'll share what i found with you guys but please note that these might have changed by now due to various reasons.

One sri lankan agent (a friend of my fathers) went to Japan last Tuesday 13th so i asked him whats the best price he can give me for a Manual red/black 2007 Axela. He said according to the current prices he can get one for 3.2 - 3.3mil. The cost was too high for me but i knew he was looking for the best available cars there (best graded ones). I know that because he got a VIOS for my father about 5 years back and it was in superb condition and he gave us the best price at the time.

I've asked him if its possible to get a cheaper car, and still waiting for a reply.

I've contacted another sri lankan agent last week and he said he has an automatic white one for 2.95mil, but since i wasn't sure about the condition of the car and i was looking for a manual red/black one, i said i'll contact him very soon if i can't find one. Also another issue was that 2.95mil is also a little bit off my budget because with insurance and stuff its gonna be over 3.1mil right. According to him the duty for this car is 1.55mil.

Also i've contacted a direct Japanese exporter via email just to check if the prices are correct. They said they can get one to colombo for around 12100USD (around 1.38mil) so with duty, total will be around 2.93mil. So i think the above prices should be correct.

Again please note that this is what i found and they might have changed or wrong by now for various reasons. I just wanted to share what i found for your information.

Just asking since I am clueless...

don't you guys need to register for VAT and then get yourselves import licenses to bring in cars? isn't that why these 'blood sucking' car importers are there for? They charge you for all tese 'problems'.

Its not exactly TVs you are bringing down, you know. Its not a cut and dry operation. There will be many many documentation processes to be done and no matter how much you deny it, palms will need to be greased.

If it was that easy, every one will get on the band wagon and import cars as they please... right... am I wrong? Or have i lost the plot here?

Even the big honchos bring down their exotics through a reputed buyer/dealer... ;)

Just checking... :)

I think you're right. As i pointed out if you know the agent you can only reduce the total from the car it self (get a cheaper car which has done more mileage or something). Getting one from an agent is the most secure and trouble free way IMO. Of course the agents will cut their part from it but we can't really blame them right? It's a business. I mean we're talking about millions of hard earned money here.

Its a tad tiring to see questions about ar prices on a regular basis. A simple check on the HitAd, Autolanka, or any other advertising medium will give you a clear picture of the current car prices in Sri Lanka.

A quick call during the week to the relevant agent will get you answers galore also.

No offense. Just an observation, as seeing multiple questions of How much is this, How much is that is a bit annoying...

Its as bad as asking how much Kms per litre for this car and that car....

:)

Go ahead, abuse me now.

Anyone know how much will be a 2008 Axio? And what's the KM/L it gets?

Good one... most probably more than you can afford and even if you could, might not get more than 10-12kms a litre... :)

There is a saying, if you have to ask the price, you probably can't afford it... ;)
