Expensive, yes it will be to recycle or even crush it, while the latter would be wastage anyway. And I doubt whether countries exist which would accept 10-20 year old cars which have run more than 200k kms. So what's your suggestion Peri, for the second hand market in SL to become fair?

@MD - To your post that I cannot see, even you have relied heavily for information on google and wikipedia, so what you're doing is uda bala kela gaseemak. I know for a fact that you'd not have had the pleasure of owning or driving every single vehicle you claim to know of.

ahem!...please sir.Tell me how you know what I have driven/owned or not, when you are the faceless p**n**a whos hiding behind a computer whereas most of the guys know me personally and know my car history.

And still you havent elaborated on this sentimental tax scheme you are proposing...tsk...tsk.

I may not know your car history but surely you'd not have driven a Honda Civic Estate with a 1.6 engine in UK which was made during 98-01? There is a limit to which you can be specific, and you speak as if you know about every single car and engine in the planet and never used google or wikipedia to check anything about a vehicle.

And I haven't insulted you in the forum, or even do the same without typing letters. I have no intention of spoiling the image of AL nor do I have any personal grudge with you. But as you're a 'Pro Member' with 2534 posts as of now, maybe you are entitled to do and say anything as you please here, without any concern whatsoever from the moderators. I'm not blaming anyone, as you're their friend, not mine.

I didn't propose a 'sentimental tax scheme' itself if you read properly, but merely made a suggestion to avoid the very high taxes for such cars. But I do not need to worry nor care about that, as I do not own or like many of them found, so it's you who should come up with the plan if you're pushing it so much, as you're the owner of those vehicles, and the person with more knowledge about the classic cars. If there was a Miura, a Countach, a Daytona, an old racing Bugatti or something of the sort here, and was for sale, and I could afford to buy it, then I would bother about elaborating such a tax scheme. But as of now, there is no need for any of that because I don't think the President, any ministers or advisers are going through AL forums and looking for ideas to base their new tax system on.

Thank you for your time.

First of all, where did I claim I have driven a euro civic estate?...What I claimed was that I have driven all generations of the civic and the Mazda 3,which is perfectly true..and this was in a whole other thread.

No.I would never be bold enough to say I have never used either wiki or google. But you'd be surprised to know how much you DONT have to use the internet for facts when you are passionate about something and not trying to be a poser petrolhead.

As you have noticed my join date is in 2008.So I am nowhere near a senior member. But I have managed earn the senior members respect and trust and even managed to make some excellent friends out of them...but I have never received any favors on the forum out of that friendship and never intend to.

Yes this was in another thread but that is where you became over critical of the new members here, wasn't it? When you say you've driven all generations of the Civic and that particular discussion was about a wholly different version which we don't find here, they mean two different things and neither I nor you could possibly have heard of it without the use of internet, which is a mess, and we need a search engine to get the desired information.

No.I would never be bold enough to say I have never used either wiki or google. But you'd be surprised to know how much you DONT have to use the internet for facts when you are passionate about something and not trying to be a poser petrolhead.

For a fact, nowhere have I claimed to be a petrolhead. Nor did I try to pose anywhere saying 'I know this, I know that, and everything!'. All I tried was to share anything that I knew and some may not due to difficulty in finding that information, as in the case of new members who had joined to ask about some vehicles, or encourage some ambitious project when no one else was bothered about it.

And about not having to use the internet, it would be true with things we're familiar with but not everyone knows everything, and in my case I honestly haven't seen a Civic Wagon in SL even, so there was a necessity to look up on that. Besides, I simply asked the owner of the vehicle whether it was a swap, stating I couldn't find information about it, and not laughing at him saying 'No way that can't be, you're lying or don't know about cars'. I'm sure you're aware you jumped in the middle and left a post which wasn't necessary nor expected, as the owner could and would have easily confirmed it without such a hassle.

I did notice you joined later than others, but also has received a title of 'Pro Member', with the post count affecting that. Yes you may have earned respect and trust of senior members, but should you look down upon a person asking a question simply because of that?

That depends on how your post is treated with 'censored' filth :)

I didn't support that tax system nor say it was good, but only told a solution to a problem Peri pointed out. As for other countries, afaik, there isn't such a big problem because by the time 15 years has passed, the vehicle would be worth around one forth of the cost it came from the factory while here in SL, it's actually more than that even, all thanks to our great tax system.

As it seems, this thread is becoming a mess and a problem for many members, things would be better off when/if this thread gets closed.

True, another classic thread fight. I wouldn't have bothered to reply after a while if the latter posts weren't personally directed.

On and on and on...all un-practical,un-feasible BS thoeries which people like you would suggest and play dumb when asked a procedure to implement these looney policies.Unfortunately we are governed by asshats like these and thats why everything in SL is f*cked up.

I dunno why Peri or others bother replying to these dumb posts.

Speak for for yourself please.Unlike you I DID know about the euro civic estate.Hence my comment about it sharing the powerplant with a rover.and there is no such thing as "jumping in" on a public forum,It is open for all.

err no...I do not pick on members(new or old) for the fun of it.But I am allergic to people saying utter BS.newbie or a senior I will stand up to anyone. My posting history will attest to that. Edited by MasterDon

I'd not quote as this has got too long.

@MD - You say theories, but I only said one thing. And it was a suggestion.

I'm not playing dumb, you would have to ask the person who came up with the whole 'new tax' system how to implement. I merely gave an opinion on one small issue in it which was pointed out.

I was only asking for his opinion, maybe that's why. And again, you jumped in and quoted me. By jumping in I meant that it wasn't directed at you.

Yes that comment would have been gladly accepted if you'd have said in a wise way rather than a mocking way, as intelligent people rather try to help than make fun of people.

I wasn't saying (with meaning of stating) anything there, other than asking something and giving my reason for thinking that, from AL998. And you stand up against questions directed at others? Ok...

@jdnet - There's nothing to feed, I only asked you to point out what you felt was nonsense told by me. For the purpose of apologizing if it truly was so.

I see no need to reply again to this thread, or reveal MDs posts.

Thanks!

I'm not a hippie, I'm not all peace and love. Where the heck is there a rule that says I have to like anyone? Who the heck do you think you are to tell me who I should like?

Again, you are wrong. I didn't say I dislike you. I said I don't like you. One is a negative feeling. One is a mere lack of a positive feeling. There is a difference. Learn it. You keep this up, and I will go from "don't like" to "dislike". From a lack of positive to a negative.

You have your views, you aired them, I didn't stop it or moderate it. I merely aired my views. You asked me a question, I replied. Respect is given to those who earn it. Senseless prattle does not earn it. Rambling on in OT doesn't help. I said there is no tax system that "will not burden" end users, like you said the govt would provide, unless its the removal of all tax. The burden of any and all taxes are passed onto end consumers. The concept is so simple a child should understand it. But apparently, you don't.

Like I said, you talk a great deal about things you don't know. Even after I said I'm not angry, you assume I'm irritated. But then you also assume I have great knowledge. You keep making all these wrong assumptions and then think you should do things based on that. THAT is what should make you sad.

You can't figure out the difference between don't like and dislike. Between will not burden and will lessen the burden. Between not angry and irritated. And you want mutual respect? Earn it.

Everybody should try to earn respect without preaching others how to do it.

Like how you tried to do it by swearing at people? Yeah, your opinion is worth a lot to me. Not.

Actually, as a matter of interest, I don't agree with you. I don't go around trying to earn respect, for me personally. There are very few people who's respect would mean anything to me. There are lots of people that I wouldn't care a whit what they thought of me. Its a very simple practice.

If your not happy you can remove your brain dead presence from here  . No one is forcing you to stay.

Very good morning to you Mr. Pericles!

Not to fight with you or to have a flame war with you. On a very friendly and polite note, may I request you to not to be harsh to people here and not take things personally? And avoid expressing your personal perception on people coming here? As people in a community discuss and communicate, you may come across people with various views. Whole idea of discussion is to share knowledge and concepts to achieve a common goal. Otherwise the discussion will not bring any outcome. Some may have very different yet practical or impractical ideas. But if the objective of this community to only have people who share certain behaviors, which had been preset by you all, still you may ask them to leave politely. They will!

But as a moderator and a leader of this community, you should have a tolerance and leadership qualities to reflect the quality of this great community. What you reflect here along with other senior or junior members will be a reflection of the whole community.

Just a very friendly suggestion. It will do a world of good for your image here and the image of AL.

If you dont agree just ignore this post. I do not have any personal ill-feeling towards you, as I have an entirely different mind set.

Sri Lankan vehicle market is actually quite funny. With the rumours of removal of VAT, any person with some sense would think the car market would head down. What happens is exactly opposite! No matter how much you reduce tax - second-hand market prices increase!

What gov should do is introduce a yearly tax system; something similar to in japan. Gov should collect tax from cars that are older than certain number of years. older the car, higher the tax.

Eg: Let's say gov decides to collect tax from cars older than 10 years. So cars that are 10 years old should pay a tax of 5% (of it's original b/n value) . Cars that are 11 years old should pay 6% etc...

This way, more people will move to newer cars. Ofcourse, this tax shouldn't be a "too much" of a burden to people either...

Thanks, but in sri lanka 90% of the people don have bucks like you to buy 2010 models. Thank you. B) Nice thinking. It would be better if you pay the 150% tax.

As someone who has been around here for awhile, I think im qualified to comment to this.

Peri is our Mod because he is the most capable person to do that job and considering the number of people who seem out to make a mountain out of a sand hill these days I have to say hes doing a fantastic one. MADZ thinks so too. So there really is no call for you, dilku or anybody else to tell him how to to do that particular job. If you really have such a massive problem with the way things are done here, May I respectfully suggest that you refrain from participating, or perhaps go and found a forum of your own where you can display all the "tolerance and leadership qualities" you want to your heart's content? Won't be the first time it has happened...

Just a friendly suggestion. It will do a lot of us here a world of good

Agree with Kaushma. I'm newbie and I personally don't know about anyone of you. But by reading this thread, I have to say, I don't have positive image about Pericles. We don't meet only likable people or people, whose viewpoint is acceptable to us all the time. We have to be bit tolerant with all these people. Everyone has different shortcomings and weaknesses and may make few mistakes here and there. If we don't tolerate others faults, they will not tolerate ours too.

You are a moderator with huge power in AL and contributed lot to this forum to be like what is now. But that does not earn you the right to think that others opinions are not worthy.
