Please help me out with the locally converted subaru wrx.. Jst want to know the disadvantages.... Specially since its a fast car on safty... Need to knw whts the price i should pay for those...

there's nothing like the original. safety is a concern indeed. get it thoughroughly checked with a trusted and competent party before buying. many out there are not properly converted. even the ones that are supposedly converted very well have more rattles and issues than originals. but you cannot still deny the performance/looks for money factor of wrx conversions.

my good friend bought a failed conversion for 1.03 million and then now have spent nearly 600k on it to convert and paint it fully anew. there are still a few rough edges to sort out in the coming days then i guess it will be very fine piece of machine. (note that my friend's car is not for sale but personal use)

Thanx brother for the advice... I agree with it... Is it same with the senok converted as well.... I am sorry for the late reply as i ws out f country....

i haven't heard too many unbiased opinions on senok conversions and therefore do not wish to express my opinion on the matter. but how much does senok quote now for the conversion in total?

bdw i drove my friend's wrx conversion today and i must tell you once the turbo kicks in, it flies. on a recent trip to hikkaduwa it did nearly 9kmpl too (bloody good for a 250hp machine). a daily smooth runner it is not, driving and riding is a physical expereince but it rewards you with driving pleasure.

How did you manage to count the BHP? Is there a dyno on your buttock?

And why on earth would you still want to count the Kmpls after a conversion like that?

hp figure was just an estimate based on orginal engine spec, current map, age of the engine etc. i wonder how many people in forums quote hp figures based on a specific dyno test they carry out.

we carried out a kmpl count because we wanted to annoy "dayawathis and ensinas" in forums who decide what's right and wrong for us.

Ah, of course..... :) Add 20Hp for the plugs, another 8 for the intake, so and so forth.... ;)

Dayawathis and Ensinas must keep the Suwandas and the Gajan mallies and his idiotic friends in check, no... ;)

But on a serious note, now that the Dyno is available, has anyone run any of the conversions on it (Evo or WRX ) - curious to know what kinda range the output is really - there is likely going to be substantial drop from the manufacturer quoted figures and those now (given age , fuel etc) right? :unsure:

I'm not 100% sure of the rate but recall it was something like 15,000 :unsure:

converted sti's are definitely not daily drivers, as someone mentioned. its a labor of love and it needs regular visits to the mech to keep things shipshape. if you're concerned abt safety, i suggest you keep the stock steering with the airbag, or get a momo sports one that has it. sadly most of these cars have a "sports" steering which adds about 20BHP (blood horsepower levels) to the car.

do your research on wrx's thoroughly. read up online and seek advise where you can. owning one is not to be taken lightly. but when that turbo spools, and you;re plastered to the seat by a hurricane of power, its bliss at another level.

i saw daryn had advertised the rates recently. something like 10k for a 3 run setup. its a 4wd dyno, btw. i think moratuwa campus already has a 2wd one

lol at gtr photo shoot reference! the security there told me that a lot of ppl came by for photo ops with the car!! saw a type-r fd3 civic there recently. 18" gunmetal alloys... swee-eet!

They tell you how much you have right now, you cant get back anything from a dyno :rolleyes:

Cars tend to loose HP overtime so the rated HP on your manual and the actual results might vary

I agree. But I thought they can pin point the actual error for power loss rather than checking all the components. For just to get HP values, 15,000 is very high. I think full EFI cleaning and tuning can be done lesser than that.

To figure out what a dyno does, read this

I know what dynamometer does theoretically. I thought they have a mechanism to figure out what are the wrong factors with the engine operation parameters. Such as Air/Fuel mixture, ignition problem. If not there will be no use for ppl like us where we use vehicle for daily running (not for racing).

If you know what a dyno is how come you dont know what it does :rolleyes:

I think you have watched too many youtube videos and got yourself confused, dynos cant diagnose problems. Tuning has to be done separately.

why exactly would someone put an econobox into a dyno and measure the HP ? :huh:

hmmm It seems no body would think out of the box. if you bought an econobox just be happy with its current performance.

And you were right. After your reply I searched youtube for dynos and found almost no econoboxes tested. anyway i am not interested in racing, just the mechanical/electrical part inside the car.

By definition, econoboxes are bought by people concerned with economy. By fact, acquiring and operating a dyno is expensive. This is not a blanket situation, but people who are concerned with their economy are not likely to want to spend the money required to tune cars on an expensive dyno.

Nothing stopping them, of course. Their car, their money, etc. But if your so concerned with the economy of owning the car, why raise the cost of ownership doing things like checking HP?
