Yeah the Track/Width of the car is quite something compared to length.. Only this spec is available at the moment, initial allocation sold out within weeks.. Apparantly the Rallye edition should be available to order in March, introductiory drive away price set at $56,200...

Huh? Ya mates are either jelous or have no idea about the car.. Take any decent women for a "ride" in it and they"ll eventually complement, guranteed..! 😁😁 That back seat is a "couch" compared to ya mates little "bench" in the back of his Yaris or Swift or whatever .. 😉

Yeah, Camry`s used to be absolutely everywhere 10 years ago, though not much now with the invasion of the SUV One of my Indian colleagues told me that some actually call it the Toyota "Curry" coz the Indians love it. Guess what he drove. @MaleCortana That`s a good ride you got over there! Congrats.! I`ve driven the V6 version, it`s hilarious how the front wheels start screaming if you start flooring it mid corner. Kind of like the font wheels dont "know" where the back is going and the driver wouldn't know what any of the wheels are doing, just hear the tire noise and go oh ok!!. The rear air vents are a great feature which was lacking in some of the mid sized SUV`s in 2004. You should let someone else drive and try sitting in the rear sometime, awesome space.

It`s all right man! We`ve all been there.. done that... Well, not sure about others but yours's truly definitely have..! Wish you luck finding a bad-ass, reasonably sized, fuel guzzling sedan! Save a big(ish) sedan since they are a dying breed!

All the peoples here are arguing like.... 😁😁 I`m sure the OP got his 6 inches confused with 6 centimetres... 😀😀 Perhaps didn`t even think it thought before posting... 😆
-
Why not go a little bit further and go mid-size? Are they noticeably expensive to insure and register? Or perhaps a parking/manoeuvrability concern? I presume the speeds and road conditions are not too bad over there? Personally, I wouldn't even consider a small car as a family hauler here in Aus because the risks are a bit too great. Seen some horrible wrecks at salvage auctions. Plus, too many morons driving around in 4WDs with bull bars and 34 inch tires and what not... But if you live away from lots of traffic and perhaps lucky enough to drive though windy roads, a little car with a manual transmission will be awesome! 😇 Are all the GR Yaris`s sold out yet?
-
Is it just me or am I missing something here? 😬 What was the “actual” issue with the mileage here? Ok it was tampered, could be 280k, 380k, or whatever. But the only ‘real’ problem with the car was black smoke out the exhaust and burning some oil? I mean, the chassis wasn’t falling apart (accident repair, etc.. ) and there were no major rust issues, it was in quite good condition right? Just hypnotically, if it was me and if I liked the car much, I would wind it up to 320k and drive it like a champ!

Yeah, but in a well designed/made car spirited driving should not cause major harm if all is kept within the car`s design parameters (i.e not using grippier/wider tires, not loaded up with too much weight etc... ). Could make a minor difference after 20/30 years perhaps(i.e. more maintenance), but definitely not within the first 10 years of a car`s life. I may have mentioned this elsewhere, about 10 years ago, I used a Civic FD. Drove it like I stole it from about 35k to 80k in the ODO. Launches, flat foot shifting, tried all sorts of things (not everyday, but whenever I felt like it ). Did regular oil changes and maintenance at the dealer. There were zero issues by the time I sold it. Not even wearables like brake pads or clutch got replaced within that 80k. I also know a good friend who used an E90 (320i) from new to close to 200k. It was a manual and he never babied it. Just maintained right and drove hard all day, had zero issues with the drivetrain.

Manual transmissions always cause a little bit of extra strain on the driveline (from engine mounts to diffs/axels) compared to a torque converter auto since the torque converter is like a giant sponge soaking up all the fun! Don`t think there`s a right or wrong answer to this since each car is designed differently and drive condition/styles are also different. For example, shifter linkages using a direct rod mechanism would be able to handle more abuse over a cable based mechanism. But honestly, if you know what you are doing the strain on things would be a minimum. So who cares eh, I`d say have fun when you feel like it...
-
You by friend, are a brave soul! Great initiative.! Would the driveline drop straight in to a FWD A4? Especially the rear diff and axels? Pardon my ignorance but my understanding on Audi products from this era are quite vague.

Lol.! you got the hint right! Challenger is more 'muscle' for sure, design wise, I like the Camaro better. Rented one whilst in the US and loved it since. The thing can actually go around corners extremely well. The inexpensive simplicity of everything compared to European equivalents is just awesome for a daily grind. Could thrash them all day without much guilt or braking the bank.. Unfortunately no Challenger/Charger/Camaro is sold here new as a base RHD car Camaro ZL1 is available, but the price is just absurd...
-
Thanks man! Yeah, they are cheap in the U.S because 'most' are used in bad weather areas are are rusted out etc... There was a time when E30`s in general were used as cheap runabout`s and winter cars whilst the shiny new car sat in the garage Some people still dont get why the 300 dollar basher car they had many years ago is 15k now.. Lol!

That makes two of us machan.. but life`s gotta move on... 1/2jz`s are bloody awesome but I must experience a big fat V8 before electric cars take over and ICE gets banned for good (legislation and emission standards are getting difficult by the day...) It will happen sometime next year (hint: crowd killer... 😆 )
-
Ha ha.. same colour eh..? What Hoovie`s got here is a little AWD monster BMW made to handle the ruff stuff machan.. The 325ix... Apparently only 3 right hand drive ix`s down here in Aus... rare as hen`s teeth and many times the price of a normal 325i..
-
Lol!! Then there`s me! I`d rather a well sorted sports car (i.e. 911) over a supercar any day. People talk about amazing design and aesthetics and all that, but up close, 'most' super/hyper cars looks kind wonky and out of proportion to me. Surely the 'experience' must be worth it, but enduring a cramped up cabin, poor visibility and (possibly) difficult drivability in most road conditions (track is a different story obviously)? I think cabin ergonomics are getting better in most current designs, but some old supercar cabin designs were just horrible.

I hope some of you guys would continue updating this thread with E30 and/or general BMW related content... I am out of the E30 game for now, sold my Yeee30 today... Just one week in the market, got near the asking price, not much dramas there.. Some pics from my sale ad below...

Glad to see some good ol` members in here.! Didn't realise that it`s been 14 years and 8 months since I've joined, time does fly!!! :O

Wow.!! Truly appreciate the dedication right there. I mean.. just finding that list of parts for a 40+ year old car! Where old Datto parts prices are going through the roof all over the world!! I am having constant mental debates with myself with just one project car! which is complete, runs fine and parts are reasonably easy to find!! Hats off machang.!!

Plus taking up space in the engine bay... the two corners obviously gets quite cramped... And aerodynamics.. With the lights up, I could actually feel the front end getting lighter at highway speeds in my Mx-5 Wont be an issue with a substantially sized car obviously, but with 900+ kilos to haul around, those popups were like air brakes when up!

But do remember that most of this for "show" and this is all in the "extreme" end of things. It`s all good fun, but you could get tired of jumping through deep ruts and denting/bending/breaking things (both man and machine) real quick. Unless you are one of these guys who`d live and breathe extreme 4WDwing of course One could do "most" off-road tracks and explore and get to places in a Prado with a decent lift and good tires. And some basic recovery gear.. And the know-how to drive properly and use the said gear..

Funny how things pan out sometimes. With all the COVID related job losses and economic downturns and all that jazz going on, the big Land Cruiser was the 4th best seller in Australia (out of all models sold) in June, even outselling the RAV-4.!! . Apparently Toyota had a difficult time supplying demand. All this with the age old 200 series platform and the 300 series about to get released (maybe next year). People seem to be going after the thing since this is the last V8 Land Cruiser. With borders being closed and no international travel, second hand 4WD prices are up by quite a margin! I see 1-2 year old Prado`s going for brand-new prices!

Now here`s that engine in action. Idle and revving in 'M2 - Sport Plus' mode : Up and down through the gears... i wasn't game enough to even try side-ways in a car I`m no familiar with..
-
Yeah, planned obsolescence in practice eh.. Some of these (i think this one too) have cylinder bore walls which are sprayed on with molten steel!! you aint` rebuilding that block easily Oh, Scotty is a happy chappy as long as Lexus is around... And Toyota's...
-
That`s exactly right, fun within not so crazy speed limits is key here. Even when compared to an older "M" car, the drama and the raw-ness is just not there in the new ones. Cant blame the manufacturer really, just different times (and gov regulations, and user expectations, and all that jazz )
