Nissan Sb14

Hi All,

I am thinking of buying a Nissan SB14 car.

1. Are there any known issues with Nissan Diesel cars (specially SB14 – 1994 YOM)?

2. Any specific things to be looking to?

3. What is the general market price and marketability?

4. How can we check the engine condition?

Your comments are really appreciated..

don't have first hand experience but few of friends and a close family friend used this and the feedbacks I received wasn't positive. One of them actually upgraded from a SB13 and according to him, the SB13 is far better and solid ride than it's successor. It popped up issues during a short period of time despite the fuel consumption of it couldn't be justified for a car of it's class. There was an engine overheating issue and this was there in all the SB14's I knew of. One of them used to drive back and forth between Colombo - Kandy and his back seat always had 5-6 water bottles stacked up. Apparently what he said was almost all SB14's he knew of has this overheating issue so that's 'native' to this car and he wasn't bothered to diagnose even.

I may be wrong here and with all due respect to SB14 owners, this may not be the best diesel option you have out there.

as harshansenadhir says sb14 dont have a good reputation here so you must look to other cars try a toyota diesel car

1994 yom mean it is a nissan fb14 stripe light model it had a low market value compared to the Separate Light model

try to find a super saloon or a ex saloon :)

No personal Experience. But don't think it has a native issues like overheating. There were some vehicles in native issues

in SL like Toyota Dolphin, Nissan Serina. (& also could be fixed.)

Regarding the Model, you would have ample of parts, 2nd hand market too not bad.

Have a good inspection of the Diesel Engine before buy as a good practice.

BTW. If you really found a reason that you should avoid this model, alternatively u may try models like AE100's Diesel model, Corsa diesel

Again, no personal experience but a good friend of mine had one and I have been a passenger in it quite often.

Apparently it has the same engine as the godforsaken Nissan Serena and he used to curse it.

I too, can vouch for the overheating issue as I myself have experienced it.

I don't think your statement about the native issues of SB14 is accurate. This engine is notorious for overheating issue on all examples I've seen. To make it worse, not much of SB14's running about compared to other diesels, so statement about the parts and second hand market again a question mark. Check around and see how many would like to settle for a SB14, you would know the market perception.
