Posted

Dear mate's,

what are the available solution to remove tough staines on the body (specially stains with plant origine/ "kahata") other than cut and polish or super cut like solutions. we have to park vehicles some times under the trees and some staines are really nasty, specially mango tree. i have tried with kerocine oil/ coconut oil/ teepol/ .

what is your personel experience, please help me to get me out of this.

Does anybody know how to remove rain stains in glasses. I've tried almost all glass cleaners. those marks are really disturbing when driving at night.

Nail polish remover :)

I found a product called STR Upholstery and Carpet cleaner, yellow spray-on bottle. Worked very well on some really tough grease and dirt stains. Too well in fact, I had to spray the whole panel and clean to balance out the 'clean' look. But works well. Bought it a supermarket. Not sure where. Killer on paint and plastic through, so be careful. Even cleaned a really really dirty and smelly sofa with what was left and worked well. Spray on, wait 30 seconds and wipe well with a clean damp cloth. LEaves a nice fragrance too.

oops; sorry for being ambiguous in my question - I actually meant on the plastics (center console between front seats, glovebox, fascia, etc.). however, some areas of the floor carpets can also do with some TLC so the tip is still useful :)

Armour All!! There is the cleaning solution and if you can find, get the Simoniz plastic and vinyl foam cleaner. I have some if you want.

hmm.. I recall jdnet was not recommending armour all for interior work; anyway i'll look around for the Simoniz stuff (any special place that carries them - don't think I've noticed in supermarkets?) or will PM you if I need to dip into your stocks :)

No worries. I am sure I bought from either Arpico, Keells or mOtorKade... :) But most probably Arpico as they have a good range of car goodies. Especially at Hyde Park.

this is kinda off the topic, is there anyway to protect the body from rusting, specially areas such as the side skirts?

If its metal, it will rust eventually. However, if the car is painted properly and there are no dents or scratches that exposes the bare metal, regular checking will ensure rust free use. Every service check the areas that are in doubt and if you find any get it attended to asap.

IF you have the dosh to spare there are commercially available rust proofing solutions, but then it all depends on how badly you need the rust proofing and if the investment is worth it considering the car you have.

isnt there anything that you can apply over the paint to protect from rust?

Check with any of these famous grooming companies. Most if not all have their won products that are supposed to slow or prevent rust. Clean park, Auto Miraj, etc... all of them offer such services.

Personally I would not waste my money on such a thing. Would rather get the proper tinkering done, attack the root cause and then look after the car with regular checking and maintenance. Because the money you put down for that kind of precautions can never be recovered and the benefits will not out weigh the cost. How long you planning keeping the car?

bought the armorall multi-purpose autocleaner (Rs. 430 or something like that). spray, leave a few seconds, scrub with a trimmed toothbrush, and rinse/sponge off - worked a treat.

says it can also be used on carpets, so may give that a try when I take the seats out for leather treatment one of these days.

can also be used for glass, painted surfaces, and clear plastic, but need to dilute with water first; so next step will be to make up a dilute solution and put it in a spray bottle to keep in the car to clean off bird-poo :)

Has anyone any experience of Auto Spa (on Darley Road) for cut & polish / wax / interior clean?

There's an attractive promo offer but I've not heard of them (tried searching on the forums but couldn't find; google found an "A-Z Auto Spa" in Dehiwala)

saw the auto spa offer as well. was tempted to go for it, but since i've never heard about the place am a bit sceptical about it.

even without the special offer, the price seems a bit too good to be true (and valid for any size of car even!)

there are some nice pics of a BMW interior though - so someone is doing a nice job :D

anyway, a colleague at work bought it, so I'll find out in a few days whether I missed out on a great deal or did he waste his money (hopefully it will not be any worse than that!)
