'Mani',

Short distance OK if not travelers has to get down number of times to empty or study to bladder control.

a better idea is to channel passenger pee to the nano engine compartment :)

Wadurata dali pihiya hambuna waga kiyanawane.

When these buggers get 4 wheels they really think that they could do these fast n the furious stunts.

so then introducing nano cabs to replace 3 wheels is not good either.... looks like the size of the vehicles are almost same so they cut into to other lanes. :D

A Tata Nano cab belonging to the taxi company Budget Taxi, caught fire on Friday (2 September) at Layden Bastian Mawatha, Fort.

A spokesman for the company said there were no passengers in the car at the time but the car was completely destroyed – gutted by the fire.

According to director Budget Taxi, Kelum Jayasumana, they are yet to find out why the car suddenly caught fire. Jayasumana said the taxi driver reported that the vehicle had suddenly stopped, and caught fire when the driver tried to restart it. “We have contacted the Tata Nano company in India. Officials representing the company will be in the country tonight (Friday),” he said.

This however does not seem to be a one off incident: a simple google search throws the issue in focus. Similar cases have been reported from Mumbai, Gujarat, Lucknow, New Delhi and Vadodara. News reports point in the direction of faulty electrical switches creating smoke and causing plastic to melt.

When asked if he was aware that the Nano Cab has a reputation for being spontaneously combustible, Jayasumana said that they had indeed been informed about it. “The problem with the Indian cars turns out to be faulty silencers,” he said. Tata had however looked into the issue and rectified it before sending the vehicles to Sri Lanka. Jayasumana added that the two incidents could be totally unrelated. “We will find out soon what the problem is when the Tata officials come,” he said.

You are serious?

People should feel compelled to carry a fire extinguisher on both rows of seats? How about people not buy a car that has an imminent risk of going up in flames?

You are insane.

Hear in GULF, all FORD, GMC, NISSAN, KIA B/N vehicles and luxury Toyota models are equipped with factory fitted fire extinguisher and its not a big deal to carry if its placed and fixed properly!

Thankfully this isn't the gulf and the conditions here are completely different. I could see why it would be a good idea there but not here. I think it's fair to expect the vehicles we purchase to not blow up and it's also fair to be able to drive around without a fire extinguisher.

Agreed bro!

my point was "its not a big deal to have a extinguisher on board" but as you correctly said whatever the vehicle it has to be safe enough to use!

BTW who can afford if this got fire

i havent done research about this car (mainly coz my life aint that dull to research about a nano)

but look at the headlights and the fog lamps even. they are plainly stickers and a fully tinted windshield? that just looks like plastic to me

Hamish McDonald in the Sydney Morning Herald today reporting on the Nano maybe entering world markets in the next two years, and discussing the Nano fires:

"A puzzled and worried Tata acquired all seven burnt-out cars and brought them back for forensic examination by British experts trained by Scotland yard. In five cases, Tata said, the forensic specialists found traces of oily rags placed on the catalytic convertors in the exhaust systems, parts that heat to 600 degrees centigrade and where a piece of cloth would be certain to generate fires that would engulf fuel lines. Who would want to sabotage the nano launch is unclear....."

Tata unveiled the new Tata Nano Megapixel concept at Geneva motorshow.

judging by the pic.... this is a huge improvement on aesthetics!

I'm sure the price would be a lot higher!

If they have sorted design issues gen 1 had...this actually might be a pretty decent city car.

To start with Tata Nano Megapixel is a concept car done for 2012 Geneva motorshow. Car is powered by four Independent electric motors and Li-ion Battery pack. Combustion tank is a 325cc petrol genny and one tank full provide 900 Kms range.Battery only will give 87Kms. completely away from the ordinary Nano league.
