Engine Oil For Hybrids

Prius

Recommended Posts

What is the recommended engine oil for Hybrids , Toyota Lanka is using 10-30 mineral and claiming it is the recommened oil, Ara*bi*n motors is using Mobil synthetic and claiming it is the recommended and use of mineral oils on hybrids will reduce the performance.

Is toyota recommending mineral because they are not importing the correct synthetics oil? or is Arab**n motors recommending synthetic oil because they are getting a better margin?

Does anybody know the correct recommended engine oil for hybrids?

in the United States later Model hybrids recommend 0w-20 viscosity oil which is a synthetic. but its not a required oil which means you can use 5w-20 non-synthetic oil. this might be a very different story in Sri Lanka.

If you happen to have a user manual just go by it.

Both Mobil and Caltex recommends 5W-30 @ 12 months/15000 km intervals. for the 1.8 model

Mobil 1 ESP formula (Fully synthetic)

Castrol EDGE (Fully synthetic)

Castrol Magnatec (Semi Synthetic)

Even Toyota USA site recommends 0W-20 Toyota synthetic for 2010-2011 models very 10,000 miles (I dont think T****A L***A has this)

Your fuel saving could be put to good use by going for synthetic I suppose.

Only reason they recommend synthetic is because of emission reasons and to be able to stretch the oil change intervals. In SL you should be changing the oil much more often because of the driving conditions and mineral oil works just fine.
