Whats The Car To Buy For 1.5 Million ??

Hi all,

I want to get my first car. I'm looking for something that would ideally be around 1.5 million not exceeding 2.0 million. My main concern is the looks of the car. I need a good looking and new looking car. It also needs to be quite fuel efficient and durable. I'm not bothered about the secondhand market. I have no experience with cars. Never even drove one. Whats the car you would recommend ?

I browsed around AutoLanka and listed few cars that I think looks decent and fits my budget, so that you can get an idea of what i'm aiming at. I'd appreciate if you can guide me on deciding about the car i should get?

Kia Rio 2002 - 1.2 million

HONDA CIVIC EK3 1996 - 1.3 million

Hyundai Elantra 2000 - 1.2 million

Hyundai Accent CH41 2002 - 1.4 million

Kia Picanto 2004 - 1.4 million (my favorite, solely based on looks for the price )

Kia Sephia 2000- 1.2 million

Nissan Cefiro 2000 - 1.7 million

I have another question. When it comes to looks, I find Hyundai and Kia cars are cheaper compared with other popular brands like Nissan and Toyota?

Why is this? Is it soley based on local market demand? or is it because the popular brands are actually better in terms of performance and maintenance?

What about buy a brand new one instead of a Reconditioned one or a used crib. I think Perodua Viva is a good one for ur budget. Also Alto car is a good choice. Plz never go with a Mi*ro Panda. The car is good but after sale is [get it?]

Partly because they're usually priced lower than their counterparts and partly because Korean vehicles are not as popular here in SL due to market perception.

from the list u put out , i think Honda EK 3 is the best for the price, but considering the age of the vehicle , i also advise to go for a brand new like viva elite

Don't forget Lancer CK2 and CK4... Look is pretty good for both of them...

Well since it will be your first ride and your first driving experience I suggest you look for a reliable and easy to maintain Jap car or a brand new Viva Elite.

You have got lot of advice from experienced A/L Members for your limit of spending for a car.

My advice is for you to go in for a new vehicle within your 2M.

Because this is going to be your 1st Vehicle and you should have a trouble free new car.

Kia cars are as reliable as any other car on the market. Do look for one which is imported brand new. Singapore imported fleet cars aren't in a good condition compared to brand new imports.

Picanto is also a good choice if you are not worried about resale and the usual yada yada. You might be able to pick one for a real bargain because of the same concern. Try negotiating.

Another one of my Korean favourites is the Hyundai Getz.

What about a fully loaded mini van? a Suzuki Every Join Turbo?

I suggest keep an eye on the AL classifieds and also the notorious Sunday paper.

However, a 2007 (or even a 2005) might not be easy to get hold of, for your budget. As far as I know, they tend to go in the 1.7 million range.
