YRD
If not OEM then I would recommend BOSCH, Mitsuboshi, Sun & Bando.. In that order... Not just for timing belt but any automotive/engine application..

The Don
What are the good brands for timing belt - 4pk1790? For timing belts always stick to OEM. Gates is the only other brand I've seen widely used.
Davy
For timing belts always stick to OEM. +1 on this. I'd always advice against going for aftermarket timing belts (and equally critical engine components for that matter) unless you've got no option. Sylvi
where can i buy in kolpit or bamba? 'nish1', Kollupitiya and Bambalapitiya you will not find any motor spare parts shops. You can get motor spare parts shops on Galle road from Dehiwala near opposite side Commercial bank to Wellawatte 1st petrol station. Near traffic lights after the Dehiwala Bridge all shops are on sea side. Sylvi Wijesinghe.
poscher
For timing belts the best you can buy are the Continental Contitech, they only produce timing belts in Germany and are the worlds largest manufacturers of timing belts. Also they are the 100% OEM suppliers to companies like BMW, Porsche, Audi, Merc, and pretty much all european brands. their aftermarket quality is the same as OEM. Bosch don't manufacture timing belts, they buy from many different manufacturers. Bando and Sun are both Japanese manufacturers and their timing belts are manufactured in Japan, they are alright as for quality, but they don't even come close to Conti or Gates. Mitsuboshi don't manufacture timing belts. Gates are not available in Sri Lanka!! OEM timing belts are not manufactured by the vehicle manufactures instead they also buy from one of these companies and they newer produce themselves. bagUrE
Gates are not available in Sri Lanka!! Poscher, I believe they are available here in Sri Lanka. Check with Korean A*to M*rt - Maradana.

Gates are very big in Americas, however they are not so big when it comes to Japanese and European cars. newer the less Gates quality is good and they and think they are the largest manufacturer of belts in the world. Gates is probably not big for German vehicles, but quite prominent in everything else. In fact you can buy Gates belts for most vehicles (I found they are readily available in Malaysia as well), though like you say I haven't seen them in SL. VVTi
What are the good brands for timing belt - 4pk1790? Best bet ould be for you to check your vehicle manufactures recommended stuff or better still go to the agent and get it from them, A timing belt is not to be messed around with using cheap parts. If it breaks, it's ByeBye engine, hello complete overhaul. Gates is available on Ebay, but depending on the car, you might as well find out from the agent. Should think that Conti is better than gates! but either way, given the agents have it in stock and if you have the cash, go for the genuine, but be aware duplicate genuine look a like timing belts are everywhere, so best bet is to go to the agents and buy from them. If you don't have the cash go for Conti, but then again you might have to order online.
