Ce 110 A/c Problem

hasmax

Question

Dear all,

For the last 3-4 weeks I'm having a problem in AC of my car ( CE 110, sprinter, 1998 ).

When the car engine is in idle-low RPM, for instance in a traffic, the vent air becomes less cold and if engine stays in idle for 2-3 min there is no AC virtually and it is just the normal air coming. This happens every time the car engine slows and happens invariably when car stops specially in colombo traffic.

When i run the car for long distance without engine slowing there is no such problem and AC works consistently.

I fully serviced the AC about 1.5 years back ( includes cooler replacement and gas refilling ) and it was working well till last 3-4 weeks when this problem started.

I appreciate your kind concerns regarding this problem as I am totally in dark about this issue.

Thanks in advance..

And check the gas again.

To check what MD has said, when you turn teh AC on or when the compressor starts does your car revs up a bit? If not then the Idel Up valve might need some attention. If that is happening and your symptoms are thee, then you need a re gassing. Check for leaks.

Could be few issues.. most probably one of the following..

System is low on refrigerant. (Due to a leak)

Condenser's not cooling enough.(Due to blockage or low fan speed)

Compressor's low on compression.

Take it to a A.C. mechanic and he will tell you exactly as soon as he hook up a gauge to your system..

Check whether the auxiliary fans (both fans in this model) do engage with the compressor. You also have mentioned that the compressor works constantly. Most probable reason would be the system lacks refrigerant. If the system has a pressure switch installed, then the compressor will stop engaging if the level drops further.

Take it to a competent AC technician and get a pressure test done. Also find and treat the leak (sometimes as simple as leaky o rings or worse case, leaky cooler matrix) before regassing.

I had a similar experience (CE 110, corolla 1998), AC starts to cool less, not working when the car moving slowly/stall.

In my case the AC condenser fan had been failed.

According to the AC teq, the compressor get over heated and shut down as a safety feature.

A used fan cost nearly Rs 2000/=

This happend to me with my starlet 2 years back. Even when the car is at halt & raved the AC worked fine (due to high RPM) but when it was just at halt I felt only the hot air blowing from the vents. Took it to the AC mechanic & he stated that the compressor had to be changed. I guess it cost me around LKR 12,000/=

He is right. This happens when the compressor is under performing .Not at 100%.Get your compressor changed. All should be fine.

Dear all..

Thank you for all your kind responses. My apologies for late appreciation of them anyway.. After getting an idea from your advices, i got it fixed. The AC compressor was faulted and had to replace it. reconditioned compressor was installed and cost was 8500 with 6 months warranty. Cooler was alright as i had replaced 1 year back. Now the AC problem is solved at the total expense of 15000 :speechless-smiley-004: . Once again, thank you so much for the guidance as always. cheers guys
