Would anyone know where one can get grease by the kilo or even in a large quantity?

I checked my usual lube shop and they only have specialized stuff from caltex...pricey and comes only upto a killo.

Also checked with an IOC fuel station and they too have similar volume containers.

I'm looking for the regular stuff that service stations use on ball joints, U joints and stuff during service.

Sometimes wet weather eats out the grease fast and need to get re-greased between services.

Got a grease gun at home so thought of adding that to my usual weekend maintenance list :)

So your truck needs MORE than a kilo of grease at a time?

machan if you need so much grease you are either using too much, have issues with your boots or are using it for purposes other than automotive.

the grease gun takes about a kilo at a time to be fully loaded. the U joints in two drive shafts too need to be "flushed" out when regreasing so it takes a fair amount of stuff.

I haven't done it myself just yet but at service stations, they use up fair bit of grease.

The truck is the older vintage where there are many grease points under the body :)

If your using it in the bedroom then your usuing the wrong stuff ;)

as you know, i got the truck and two trail bikes that needs attention on and off. the gun is a the larger size, cartridge type that takes fair amount of stuff to load up.

So pointless getting those smaller tubs... I already have about 3 types of grease for diff uses that come in the smaller tub and tubes etc.

This is purely for underbody greasing points.

I think i will do a proper recce on ground for this cos nobody seems to have an idea where to get the stuff :)

Ripper,

Good high quality grease is available at Central Bearing & machinery (Pvt) Ltd. No.2A, Lake Drive Colombo 00800. Contact number 2690565.

Contact Manager Mr. Ahangama.

I bought 1 kg for Rupees 5250.00 TIMKEN USA Product. Used to buy Caltex early stock I had wheel bearing and water pump two 28Lbs barrels

More than three decades all was over few years back used to buy from SKF Agents that came in tubes about 100 Gr for 800.00 rupees.

They were also really good. At present they do not have a outlet in Colombo.

You should use quality grease High temperature not what is in Service stations all purpose chassis grease.

Which wash off as you say.(wet weather eats the grease fast) Try this Timken contact them and inform your requirement.

yeah. junior loves all the weekend workings at home :) keeping the chap away when things get a little hairy is the issue. Like when i get to weld and stuff.

Tough to manage with a curious 4 year old :)

Stick welder is showing it's weaknesses though...a good TIG is what's needed now..

Quite the addiction this tool hoarding has become :D

Sylvi Wijesinghe.

Thanks Sylvi.

I got regular grease from an oil shop close to home. The quality stuff are quite pricey as you've stated.

Once the the 3kg i got runs out, will get the Caltex high temp bearing grease. Seems to be a decent all rounder grease for U joints, ball joints and the likes.

Now a TIG welder? I'm starting to agree with your friend on what you should really get.

Hi

Try Royal Marketing of Panadura. You may have to do some search for the contact number for I do not have it with me. They supply grease in bulk.

yo Ripper try any government office. They must have tons of grease or other highly efficient lubricants judging by the way the folks who work there slip away from doing any work!

Now a TIG welder?

the stick welder is burning through most of the light material...even with low current and careful handling.

TIG actually seems a lot of PITA...maybe a proper MIG :)

Them chinese units are about 30k...getting argon tanks etc is the bigger bitch
