1 ---> Yes, back in 1967 when the car was designed... The almost half century since then has yielded several improvements in the automotive field.

2 ---> Stick to discussing FB15 fuel consumption ok?

1 ---> Your point is valid as long as the other parts of the vehicle is also upgrade to the different engine other than manufacturer put.

2 ---> I never worry about a fuel consumption of a car I've never even driven in life...

If you actually bothered to read the thread from the beginning, you'd see that the OP intended to Resto-Mod the vehicle...Which usually means upgrading the other mechanical parts as well.

Of course you'd upgrade the other parts of the car! What sort of idiot puts a newer bigger engine and leaves the rest alone??

This type of idiot....

hey guys..

good day to everyone..im cooking up a project to modify a ford escort mk1 or mk2 , and i wanna put a jap motor in it , preferably with a turbo. since its a rear wheel drive car i would like to get some advise and know how , about an engine , and any tips will be highly appreciated..

thanks in advance

I've been reading up on this topic for a couple of weeks (but not specifically on the Escort). If you've looked at the SR20, have a look at the CA18DET as well. It's an iron block as opposed to the aluminum (or alloy???) block of the SR20. However, being a smaller engine than the SR20, it's a little bit lighter as well.

I stumbled upon a thread in which this guy swapped the CA18DET into Capri which had a Pinto 1.6 in it. So if the Escort can take in the Pinto, the CA18 shouldn't be too far off for the Escort.

My suggestion is, if the car you find has a salvageable engine, rebuild it to spec. But if it's a total write off and HAVE to source another engine, go all out and drop a bigger engine. But everywhere I looked, all I saw was crapload of work and long list of little things to worry about. It definitely won't be easy but the end goal does have an appeal. When restoring a classic, you have your hands full to begin with.

Whichever option you go for, please post up your journey.

Good luck
