Havent heard much news on the southern expressway, colombo-katu , colombo -kandy and outer circular road projects.

Anybody has any updates on these projects so far.

We all know it's BS, but maybe it's not just typos or bad reporting. Maybe it's just disinformation to keep the public scared. Which, imo, might just be a good thing.

These new regulations they are talking about? how's one going to be enlightened on them?

The last thing you'd want is an idiot in a van tailgating you at 100 km/h when a sales rep in a maruti suddenly pulls up in front of you with no warning doing just 40.

In typical sri lankan fashion the public won't be properly informed about how much more discipline is needed drive at these speeds. Also the few self proclaimed intelligent individuals who learn about this will quickly dismiss this information cos they clearly know better.

Also expect a lot of cheapskates backing up on the hard shoulder cos they just drove 900 metres past their exit.

Yes...plus,missing wing mirror repeaters confirms the model is a 1.5l but unsure thats 4WD or 2WD.

2600cc could be the Xtrail (2.5Ltr) or the Patrol (2.8Ltr) used for breakdowns. But most probably a typo or srilankan style making 1 banana into 2 to get attention.

Highly doubt that, i think these are just normal Anesis models (the jdm for Impreza)

Yeah, there is the possibility of them cop idiots crashing if no proper driver training is given. Doubt they`ll bother about chasing anyone though, might be easier to radio someone to wait at the exit(s), it`ll be more like ‘crashed on the way to/from duty’

Makes sense to have a good fleet for highway patrol though.

This text came to by email of Express way today.

Southern Expressway is the first expressway in Sri Lanka and it is the longest expressway out of proposed expressway network. It runs from Kottawa to Matara (126 km) and also include Galle Fort Access road. Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Japan Bank of International Corporation (JBIC) are the main funding agencies for this project. Section from Kottawa to Kurundugahahetekma (65 km) was undertaken by JBIC and section from Kurundugahahetekma to Godagama, Matara (64.8 km) was undertaken by ADB.

Southern Expressway will be extended up to Hambantota in it's later stages.

It is expected to open the Southern Expressway from Kottawa to Gall Fort Access (Pinnaduwa) before end of Year 2011. At the initial stage of operation of the expressway the maximum speed limit will be 100 km/h.

Project Objectives

• Improve transport facilities for future development of Southern Region.

• Provide a highway to act as a catalyst in encouraging and attracting industries and services for the Economic and Social development of the region.
  
• 
  
• To promote inter-regional transport facilities by developing this road, considering it as a major component of the proposed Expressway network.
