When i went to CMS yesterday i saw a F150 raptor on display at a place called IDEA or IDEAL motors.

it was humongous !!!!

And to my surprise it was a Left Hand Drive vehicle.

How did they get it to Sri Lanka?

i thought customs doesn't allow LHD vehicles in to the country :speechless-smiley-004:

Is it a case where the law has been selectively applied/ignored as it done these days in SL :)

I'm not sure you saw the Ford F150 or the Ford Super Duty.. Ford F150 is the regular pickup and the Ford Super Duty are huge pickups which comes with a much bigger body and of cause a bigger engine. Also;

  • Ford Super Duty models start from F-250 to F-450.
  • Ford Super Duty comes with 2 rear wheels version and 4 rear wheels version with 137", 142", 156", 158" and 172" wheelbases.
  • You have engine options of 6.2L V8 petrol engine & 6.7L Turbo Diesel V8
  • You might even surprise that these pickups even comes with 2WD version apart from the very demanded 4WD version.
  • Also they have 2 door, 4 door versions.

No there was a Raptor, not the regular F150. That unmistakable grill with the massive FORD on it. Dunno any more details of how it got there though.

Ohh i love that grill.. Will not be easy to pump petrol to that 6.2L engine (hope its the same engine that you get in US). I went to a Ford showroom with a friend of mine and believe me they quoted US$10500 additional for lifted suspension..!! (Plus some more for other package items) which ended little under US$60K.. Wonder what would the price tag in SL after taxes..

But i made him buy the Toyota Tundra 5.7L (US$56K) over the F150.. :sport-smiley-004:

I don't think this is something to "surprise" coz you can see expensive vehicles than this in SL so SVT RAPTOR is in SL we need to be proud

Posted

Yeah there's hardly anything to be surprised. There are much more expensive cars running about. About the LHD, last I checked, you can import one if you can get a special approval from motor traffic.

Posted

Hoonigan, I think you can import, but you can't register, and on pics it didn't have SL plates (actually had no plates in the ones I saw). The vehicle might be in SL for modification and re export or under the car net system.

There is a RHD version of this truck because you can buy it in the UK. Whether its factory original or a conversion I do not know.

Posted

Ah I didn't know that about registering an LHD vehicle. This was what i found out from customs regarding the importing of an LHD.

Posted

You can import LHD but you have to convert it to RHD within a certain amount of time and show it to RMV and other authorities if you wanna use it on roads...The yellow Corvette though is still LHD and can be seen driven,so go figure..

The fellas at the bmich told that they will convert the vehicle to right hand steering and they even showed some pics of the cars which they have already converted.

Do you think the Hummers coming to SL is RHD or LHD to RHD converted?

I drove one at Virtusa which was brought for a party and the dashboard was fully RHD ready could not see any difference. If it was converted it was a perfect conversion. But sorry to take the topic off F-150, I'm just curious to know and that's why i brought up this one..

Sorry mate no idea about them. But I have heard a place in Sri Lanka which imports left handed hummers and covert them to right handed ones. Its a famous place even indian cricketers have bought hummers from that place.Yes about originality of the dash board. There will not be any noticeable difference even if its converted.I couldn't find any difference in the pics which they showed me. Edited by killercruise

In any market where north American brands aren't that common, they gona look humongous.

Or may be they will give me a big discount on next purchase.. :medium-smiley-037:

Anyways, $56K was including (Tax + Dealer charges + Title + etc..) And it already had the lifted suspension, premium audio, etc.. and other convenient packages (including clear bra and tint all around) - you know all those stuff that dealership adds to increase the price here.. :speechless-smiley-004: Since it was the sale event in the dealership the price was good comparatively.. May be we have a bad taste we thought Tundra lifted suspension version look better.. :sport-smiley-004:

Tundra definitely is a cool truck. But like xxx mentioned, all these us market trucks like the tundra, f#50, sierras etc are frickin huge! Driving one in our roads should be an experience on it's own.

The equivalant is driving a tata lorry (the smaller 3.5 ton version). I thought of a canter truck but that is forward control and easier to drive.

Exactly, and the Raptor is not even one of the full size pickups either LOL. You should see the Super Duty dually.
