Buying My First Car

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys, I'm planing to buy my first car.

my budget is maximum 2500000 rupees

so far I have following in my list (is there any other vehicle I missed? I'm looking for something with less than 50000km milage)

  • Mazda demio
  • Nissan Tiida
  • Lancer CS1

toyota is not for me so vitz, vios etc is out. (I basically hate toyota)

Can you guys post your ideas on following topics comparing above 3 vehicles?

  1. Fuel economy
  2. Driving pleasure
  3. comfort
  4. ground clearance

and also please provide me a general idea on what condition can I expect on above budget for above vehicles ? (YOM and milage)

Thanks all for your valuable comments

P.S.

I'm also thinking about mazda 3/axela

not sure if it fits my budget.

would you be able to do a comparison on driving pleasure between mazda3,axela,demio,tiida and cs1?

for example something like following would be enough, but more info is always appreciated :)

Mazda 3>axela>demio>tiida>cs1

First of all the the demio doesn't quite fit in with the other cars. Its quite a small car.

I have no experience with Mazda's can tell you a bit about the other two.

1. Fuel : Tiida is actually not that good on fuel. Realistically would do about 8KMPL

Lancer CS1 Manual is better on fuel. But the 1.3 auto will not do that good either

so CS1(manual) >tiida

2. Driving Pleasure

Easy ... Tiida >CS1

3. Comfort

Again very easy Tiida >CS1

4. I think CS1 >Tiida

Have no idea about the other two. But Demio belongs to a different category altogether IMHO but it is easily below your budget. and the Axela (2004) Should be within your range.

Prices of many vehicles have come down.

If you want ground clearence, then its the CS1/CS2/CS3 ,Suzuki SX 4, Mazda 3 you should aim for

Driving pleasure is a Mitsubishi speciality, with Mazda doing pretty good as well (thanks to Ford)

Fuel economy wise the Mitsubishi manuals will do the best, but the rest are pretty similar, unless you go for a smaller car like the Demio

I'm not a fan of the Tida. It wasn't a big hit for Nissan and the design is a bit Marmite. But its good value for money.

I can shed you some light about Demio.

1. Fuel economy - It does 9-10 km/l in heavy traffic (mostly Pitakotte to Colpetty). It has recorded 19.55 km/l as the best fuel economy (on the highway @ 90 kmph) so far. 16-17 km/l is very usual in outstation drives. BTW, my Demio got a CVT gear box.

2. Driving pleasure - One of the best cars in the category.

3. Comfort - Again, one of the best cars in the category. But bigger cars should do better.

4. Ground clearance - Should be enough if you are not a off-roader :mosking:. I never had a problem even with a body kit on.

Prices have gone down drastically in the last few months. Therefore you should be able to easily find a decent car for around 2.1-2.2 mil.

+1 for Demio , A really fun car to drive , has a sharp steering. However, beg to differ with OP , it has stiffer suspension and bit more road noise than Toyota's and Nissans.

However that should not put you away , it looks good and will give you a smile every time you drive it .

For me Mitshubishi looks more like a comfortable car rather than a sportier one. :) but I have never driven one before :). Just a thught simply by outside look .

Anyway CS1 is the only mitsu for my budget. can you share some info about it? like market price and what are the option I can expect for CS1 below 2.3mil? and how much milage to be expected?

I have seen many people say it has very stiff suspension so you will feel every small bump in the road and this makes it very uncomfortable

I have driven suzuki swift 1.3 (2004 model) and suzuki kei (2004 turbo) model. They have very good ground clearence which gives very good confidence when driving. I'm particularly fond of 660cc turbo kei for its ground clearence and handling ^_^ . being said that, can you compare suspension stiffness and comfortability of demio with swift or kei? so I can get a better estimation. :)

I guess it depends on driving style- my cousins Tiida did only around 8KMPL in city/suburbs.

I see :)

You should aim to get a 2007 CS1 with less than 100 000 km for 2.3 million I recon. I have a feeling you would do much better than that. I think that was the last year the CS lancers for sold because from 2008 we get the model known as the Ex though I don't know the actual model code.

No machnag, CS lancers were made up until 2011. In fact there are few CS lancers in the market these days made between 2010 to 2011. 2008 cs1 s are quoted between 2.2 to 2.3mil and 2010 & 11 are floating at 2.4 to 2.5.

While lancer EX are still hovering above 3mil, you can get an axio x grade around 2.9 and 141 at 2.75mil. 2007 models.
