Used Japanese Or Brand-New Indian?

Happa123

Question

Hi all,

I am new to this and I'm planning to buy my first car. My budget is around 1.8M. I want to know which would be the best option among buying a used Japanese car and brand-new Indian car.

How would be the fuel efficiency in used Japanese car? Is it almost same as its brand-new condition? Will they require frequent repairs?

Thanks in advance.

Is there even a need to ask this question? Used Jap is far better than brand new Indian.

For your budget I would suggest

Toyota AE100

Nissan FB15

Swift jeep model

Perodua viva elite(not Japanese, but better than some Jap hatchbacks)

March K12

Personally, I would go for a used Jap than an Indian. It is tempting to buy a brand new car to avoid a few repairs here and there and the fuel efficiency. But if you opt for a Jap, you will be getting a lot more car for your money. Sure, you will have to take care of a few things along the way but normally; build quality, safety, reliability are much better if you find a car that has been cared for. And fuel economy won't be a whole lot worse than a new Indian.

No need to seek advice on this my friend..Just close your eyes and go for a used Japanese car..Definitely you won't regret..Even though brand new, those little Indian crap will make your driving experience a nightmare... :violent-smiley-100:

I have a different view on this

If Ur running daily then Idian (old/new Alto, Celari, etc or Panda/cross) may fit in

It is really hard to find a good copy of FB 15, N16, 110, starlet, Old vitz

if not using daily consider euro cars (if u really like cars) but remember u can’t do buying and selling business with euros. May save u and ur love once in a major accident and fun to drive (I mean it, imagine ur in 3rd gear running at 90Km/h while indian alto at 5th trying to keep up with u in southern highway :sport-smiley-004: )

Last December I went to my garage to collect my car after some repairs. An older gentleman rolled in with his 2 year old Alto. He was complaining about exhaust noise. While the mechanic was inspecting the car, I had a look too. The car had done about 28000 km.

The fault was the silencer mid section had rusted and collapsed. The mechanic offered to weld it back together and put it on, but warned he'll probably need a new pipe with the back box which was also rusted.

I noticed a few other things. The rear door locks seemed to be somewhat pulled out. The window winders were tight and the rubber seem to have hardened. The rear bumper had lost colour.

The engine and gear box and the brakes seemed to be ok. But needless to say I wasn't impressed.

To compare to this, my old 1993 Mirage still runs the original 1993 exhaust back box. Its needed new pipes, but the box is still ok, at least for the moment.

Neighbour has a Alto. Same story. I think it didn't take more than few leasing installments for him to find rust in the door edges :)

If you have no previous experience on cars, mechanical failures and how to get things sorted out you may benefit from buying a brand new as it is covered by agents warranty. But, there is no argument that it is behind the used jap in all other aspects (except FE).

Please be aware that most 110s, FB15 are hacked by now. It is very difficult to find a well maintained one with recorded history and true milage. So when things go wrong you could be taken for a ride by the mechanics if you have no knowledge in the subject.

if buying used car make sure u checked not less than 20 cars of same mod before that final call, more u check more u learn :)

**** beware some new indian cars born with defects, so check all before u drive it to home.

The least considered fact by buyers in SL is safety. While 50km/h crash in an Indian car might kill you or make u lose a leg, a jap will let you walk away yourself. So consider the safety over 2-3 km/l economy

I do not agree. If you dont have any experience, you can get it. study, search, go n visit many cars that you prefer, talk with experts, etc. etc.

and its not rocket science. of course you cant just go buy the thing and walk away for an old car. but I think that effort is worth while rather being lazy to get a newer crap.
