The best place to study Automobile Technology in SL is German tech. To my knowledge at Arabian Motors theirs no qualified persons to teach

There is another place @ Orugodawatta called "Japan tech". Chaps who cannot secure a place at German tech goes there. Not good as German tech but a decent place AFAIK

Yep, I too would say go with German Tech and C&G. The reason you goto a place offering a course is for the recognition and standardized quality. Else you might as well work part time at your neighborhood garage part time and learn as you go.

If you dont mind me asking, WHY are you planning on doing the course? Do you wish to start a (or continue a) garage in SL? or is it a hobby? Or do you need a formal certification for any other purpose like skilled migration?.

`I want to learn it...I am restoring VW at the moment. but my father is handling the technical part coz he is a very good technician (65 Year age) but he got a offer from Doha and this he will leave the country soon. So I want to learn from scratch about this. I know some but my father said you have to learn the theory so then you wont stuck. also I am in IT field and hope to move to Australia again. (I was in australia) So i dont want to work in IT field again. I dont mid about certificates. I need to be a WAddek.....

Becoming certified by German tech is a lengthy process. it will take around three years to finish the course and German tech certified technician are in high demand in both SL and abroad. However going through this process for a car restoration project is not worth.

Car restro is part of my hobby.. I want to move to Auto mobile. boz of money n this I cannot do a full time course. I have 5 year target to complete this courses and get experience.

I called to German Tech... They dont have any courses start soon...also not planned yet

Your intention is clear bro..but I'm really doubt about the place you are going to do the course..city and guild is not as widely recognized presently as good old days. I think better be patient and secure a place at German Tech when they start a course. If you have plans to move Australia again, you have to seriously consider your quality of education to compete with wide rage of professionals from all over the world.

Thank you for your advice... I am free after June.. I ll check German Tech and Japan tech..

Japan Tech told that they r starting courses once 10 students registered. Now I change my mind to Japan tech or German tech which ever start 1st after June. Thanks for your help and info..

I'm just wondering.. You said you're from Australia. So why dont you go back to Australia and try something there? I'm guessing there are courses there too, and the money for the industry is supposed to be pretty good, right?

Yes...I applied for PR and waiting. Thay charge 15 000AUD for Diploma.

Even if German Tec was starting courses its really hard to get in.My cousin had to do a lot of politician ass kissing to be selected...Didn't do him any good though.Bugger graduated and all but he's still a massive idiot. No imagination whatsoever.

I think D*MO has similar academy.

Sorry dude, I'm even more confused now. I thought you used to live there.... 15,000 sounds like the tuition fee for a full fledged diploma, so if you're serious about working in the field and moving to Australia, you might as well make the investment.

This question is out of personal curiosity... What made you leave an IT job in Australia and come to Sri Lanka to learn automotive mechanics? It's a very interesting change in vocation/lifestyle.

Who runs german tech? I thought it was a privately funded institute.

Still I am waiting for my Permanent Residence. Once I got that I can go to Australia. but before that I want to learn Auto mobile. Thats why I am looking for a course. I decide to go to Auto mobile Engineering Institute Orugodawaththa... I can get a basic knowledge and then do the rest of exams.

Actually I love auto mobile. We had a garage in my house and worked 12 people. My father close it n moved to Doha.. Now we r doing repairs only the people we know. I know how hard is but I lov Auto mobile. we have all the equipments, welding, Compressor, Gas welding n all. I like to physical job than sitting on a chair (What is currently doing) job

Out of curiosity what is your current job?

If it is what you want to do, you should put in the effort and achieve it. Note that pay is not great until you become partner of a garage or start your own. You also need to find a good place to become and apprentive.

Like others have stated, German Tech is probably the place to go to learn theory. But it might be good to join a local garage and work part time, like on weekends. I had this deal while over here for a few months (though I could only make it on the occasional Saturday), but unfortunately my buddy has since returned to SL :(
