dieahrd
Anybody knows a place where one can get EPS issue fixed for Lancer Ex around Colombo? Not planning to consider agents for the time being.
Davy
Wait.. the Lancer EX has EPS? I was pretty sure it has a hydraulic system. What exactly is the issue?

Few weeks back I could hear noise from front tires when going over uneven ground and brought this to attention of the usual mechanic who does maintenance. After checking the car he stated, rack ends are shot and that has affected the steering rack (electronic?). Ideally a replacement was needed and he checked few places 2nd hand and original from the agents. Since the steering rack it self was fine and only the end point was damaged, he recommended getting it fixed using Lathe shop. Some more bushes and links were replaced as well. I must say that I didn't pay much attention to the details of the problem, rather wanted it to go away due to some other priorities at that time. However I feel that power steering is not smooth as it used to be any more. Sometimes there is a sudden kick in the steering when taking a slow turn. This is not felt when driving around 40-60 Km/H. Hence my question about EPS mechanic...

Hence my question about EPS mechanic... Your power steering is not electronic and is a basic hydraulic system to my knowledge. I have not heard of a 10th gen Lancer variant that comes with EPS. So even a mechanic with the basic competence should be able to carry out a steering overhaul without any problem. Obviously, re-machining (if not done properly) will result in various side effects. What you should have done is replace the rack ends, tie rod ends and bushes (at least with a good set of aftermarket replacements if you cannot afford genuine parts). Having said that, it is also possible that the machining job was done properly, but your mechanic over-tightened the linkages (especially the tie rod end bolt). If the power steering belt was removed during the repair for some reason, make sure that the belt has the proper tension. A slipping belt will cause the power steering pump to pump insufficient oil to provide you with power assistance. Hence the tightness in the wheel. You need a "good" mechanic, not a EPS mechanic.
Reckless
I suggest you take Davy's advice, like he said the Lancer Ex didn't come with EPS.

The sudden kick you mentioned, is probably due to a loose belt gripping time to time, as Davy said, Upon simple nudge on the belt, if the travel /sway more than 2cm roughly sidewats, indicates if its loose, as for rack ends, best replace Edited September 1, 2015 by tiv
dieahrd
Thank you for the information and guidance. Rumesh88 pointed out a mechanic who knows how to work with these sort of issues.

esanda007
Guess its the belt. Change it to a genuine itll do. I had the same problem with a mitsuboshi belt. Once i changed it to mitsubishi it all came smooth.By the way it comes with EPS which will not faulter under usual circumstances. dieahrd
I checked the belt (PS and AC shared belt?) visually and I couldn't see anything wrong. Tension seems to be ok as well. Planning to take it to the mechanic tomorrow.
