Just to share some experiences I had with OBDII - Bluetooth Adapter

I brought down OBDII-Bluetooth adapter from Ebay and from few days I used as a engine data source to run an ancillary Android display of engine parameters. I kept the adapter plugged permanently and it worked really well for few days providing real time data.

Yesterday, meter cluster warning lights start to work strangely. Check engine light came up with transmission error code and ABS and some other warnings started to blink. Believing, the adapter is the culprit, I removed it and waited a day and the warnings went off.

Conclusion: It is not a good idea to keep the OBDII adapter plugged in for long, as it can generate fault signals in the ECU and make the system unstable.

So, be careful when using this gadget......

Get a reputed brand like Scangauge. People leave them plugged in permanently to their cars without adverse effects.

We have a separate thread for eBay stuff, viz Cool Ebay gadgets for cars

I have been using a USB to OBD cable, a WIFI to OBD adapter, Bluetooth to OBD adapter

since 2010, same old items on same old cars;

never had an issue though, maybe its a faulty unit or something.

Sorry, I thought that this deserves a new thread. Anyways, if appropriate please merge this with Cool ebay gadgets.

Good to know that people have used such adapters without any issues. Perhaps, the adapter may be sending false signals to the ECU or a real coincident.

I"ll wait and see whether the check engine light come again or not without plugging the adapter.

Is there a chance the mess up the ECU by a faulty adapter?......

best take it out, an adapter is max $10 - $50 to replace, an ECU would be way worse, yes it can

Yes, web search gave enough evidences of many dangers of Cheap Chinese OBDII adapters. I am not dare to get another similar one from Ebay....

How we can find a good quality OBDII

May be the OP ended with bad experience.

With OBD2, other than CLEARING engine check codes, we cant do beyond that, unless for monitoring sensor results.

I know few people who using HUDs, keeping paired with OBD2 all the time.

I think these 2 thread can be merged.
