Toyota Vitz - Ksp 90 Rpm Issue.

Hi All,

I have a toyota Vitz - KSP 90 (1KR - 1000cc) and it had only 29000km in mailage. Manufacturing year 2008.

As per previous owner confirm it had 13000km when he bought as unregistered and he did only 6000km for past one year.(Vehicle is registered in 2013 September and i bought in 2015), After he bought he done Engine Tuneup and first service from agents.

Now i face following issues.

1. Car does not start at once after 7 or 8 hours stop - Crank several times before start. I check battery also, it s good and i tried to turning ignition ON, wait for few sec and then start. That worked most of the times. Car starts without any delay.

Is this Normal in vitz ??

2. RPM goes around 2000 when i stop in traffic in N position - RPM goes to 2000 from idle and came back, this recently happen few times to me and it happens when AC is on.

Do i need to do an engine tune up again and please mention any good places for that in Colombo.

Kindly looking for some advises on this from you guys.

A mileage of 29k is a bit suspicious for a 2008 car. Isn't it?

Yes, but i checked with all the past records and it seems to be true.

i got Japanese service records, JAAI and even agent inspection report when i bought.

Welcome to the forum.

1. Start up dealy is not normal. If you can start the car after waiting for a few seconds it may be due to fuel returning back to the tank. So it could be a problem with the fuel pump. Provided the mileage is genuine (I too had the same concern as sathyajith99) it is a car that had been idling for most of the time and every chance for the rubber seals to get dried up and shrink. (Abnormally lower mileage is not necessarily good for a car).

2. Better to get a tune up done although the mileage is only 29000 kms . I can recommend a place in Moratuwa if it is not too far for you. If interested send me a PM.

I have used Vitz 2007 1000cc for 3 years and 3 months. I too observed this type issue rarely when battery becomes outdated. but not continuous.

I have following questions.....

1. How did you check the RPM value while in the traffic?. (Because generally, Vitz 2008 1000cc hasn't RPM meter)

2. Is this issue observed recently ? (you have used the car 10,000 km after purchasing. How many km's used with this issue ???)

3. Did you removed your battery without giving outside power for some reason ????

Further,

1. Increasing the RPM when shifted to N while AC on is normal for Vitz. It's increasing and decreasing time to time according to cooling load requirement.

2. If the millage is 19,000 km (13000 + 6000) when you bought the car and now 29,000 means, there should be original tires when you buy the car. If you didn't change tires or at-least one original tire is with you, please check the tire manufacturing date. If it inline with car manufacture date, most of the time your millage will be genuine.

Yes, When i buy, car came with 4 original Dunlop tires (Dunlop SP2030 japan) and tire manufacturing year also 2008.

1. This is an "U" grade, and this has RPM meter and all the other options as well.

2. Yes i observed this very recently and even today morning when i start the car it starts normally but stopped just after started. Then i hear sound like a motor is working (seams to be fuel pump not sure, and car is in Ignition ON state) and then i start again, it starts normally.

3.No i didn't remove battery after i buy this car. But previous owner had change the battery to a new one.

U grade does have RPM meter+ climet control and stuff. What's your idle RPM at operating temperature (after 10-15 mins drive) with AC and without AC? How was the gear shifting?

Idle with AC on : 700 to 800

Idle without AC : 600 to 700

Gear shifting is normal no lag between gears and i didn't notice any difference.

only thing i'm worrying about is this starting issue.

Anyway, i thought to take this to agents again for a Engine Tuneup, And i know they will charge a lot But i thought it ll be much safer to go there rather than going to a local garage.

Let's do below checks before going to engine tune up (I hate the word tune-up as its only a cleaning job)

1. How many time cranking required for morning start (1, 2, 3 or more) ?

2. Try to start the car with little depressing the accelerator (throttle) and observe the difference.

3. How old your battery and the type of your battery (maintenance free or not) ?

4. Where did you refill fuel. Is it reliable place. (Can't be due to some additive - diesel or kerosene - in the fuel ???)

As Rumesh88 said there is a possibility that fuel pressure not retained due to some issue and normal running no issue due to pump is working continuously.

One another possibility is fuel filter (inside the fuel tank) partially clogged.

Further,

As I experienced in my Vitz, its difficult to understand the deterioration of the battery other than starting delay (I experienced this for tow times). Suddenly it becoming worst. (I went some where evening. Car started with slight delay. after running 20 km, stopped the car. Just after 5 min, I couldn't start the car. I have to start by jumping. Next day morning had to jump start again. Checked the charging and its working well. Replaced the battery, all finished.
