Indian Or Japanese

ShamilFazeel

Question

Hi,

I'm planning to go for my 1st car. Since it's my first, I'm in big trouble of choosing one. My budget is 1.3mil max.

And the question is whether to go low mileage indian one or a used japanese car about 180,000km.

Please advise, which is much wiser!! I don't have any fuel issue since this will be for home use only. But the spare parts much worried.

Bros, one more question. Do you guys have any idea whether leasing companies, lease such old cars??? I'm stucked with this long holiday so couldn't contact any till Monday.

No they wont lease minis. Check with commercial credit. Thats the only company that leases high risk and dubious vehicles. Their interet rate will be something like 25%

Yes crosswind you are right..There was a guy who got a lease from Commercial Credit for a Jaguar which was manufactured in 1979..According to him interest rate was 24%. I'm not quite sure why they are giving leases for high risk vehicles which finally lead their fitch rating to go down.

'Cos its profitable - 25% is a pretty high interest rate (high risk premium) considering that automobiles have benefited from appreciation in value over the years due to SL tax rate increases.

Bro Crosswind,

this was from you which commented on my other thread;

"Have you already bought it?

If you were confused about what to buy (Honda... Indian etc.), Mini is not the way to go...

Even if you buy one, jumping in to an EFI conversion is not the first thing you ought to do.

Don't be mistaken. There's nothing wrong with buying a Mini as a first car. But do you have access to a mechanic who specialises in Minis? There are only a few in the country.

If you buy one, get to know the car first. Then think of upgrades and conversions."

i'm actually from panchikawatta :sport-smiley-003: , at the hub of colombo. Do you know any best mechanics around? even Col 1 - 15 anything will be fine.

thanks Bro

There's a guy in ingurukade junction, near the fire brigade. Forgot his name and don't know if he's still living. You may need to go there and look for him. The other two I know are Saman (Navinna, Maharagama) and Ranil (Kadawatha). Lakshman, who was in Borella and later moved to Ethulkotte seems to have vanished. Dunno whether he moved to the great garage in the sky.

Also if you are in Panchi, check with Iqbal from Cosmic or from Sumana Motors. They stock Mini spares and might know some mechanics who are in the scene now.

Beware - all Mini mechanics are excellent at ripping you off.
