Fuel Filter For Mitsubiishi Lancer Cs1

HRS

Recommended Posts

Hi Roshan,

If I remember correctly, the filter isn't sold separately. The fuel pump assembly houses the filter and it should be purchased as a whole unit. You can verify this with the agents - they might have a repair kit or something now. Call the spare parts division, give the number of your car (if it's a brand new import) or chassis number and they will tell you over the phone.

The service manuals don't have part numbers.

Thanks for all the replies. Before writing to this forum I contacted the agent. they refused to give the part number of the fuel filter :sad-smiley-050: and the cost of the filter is around 20,000/= LKR. That's why I tried to find the filter from somewhere else.

Note : During last service, Un??ed ?otor? recommended me to replace the fuel filter since mileage is more than 60,000 KM. However, so far I am not experiencing any issue with the Filter.

HRS,

I was trying to get a fuel filter for my Mitsu Galant 2005, and had the same prob. The agents said something like 11k and there was only one unit in their Galle outlet!

I ordered the part online and got it for around 3k (with customs duty).

Find your exact part number on this site .. and then check for it by part number on ebay or amayama.com or www.fitinpart.sg... i got mine from the last one. If you cannot find the part number, find the exact model number (it should be on your car's VIN plate) and I can try to track the filter down for you.

Offtopic question, the OP doesn't seem to have any issue with the current fuel filter. Does everyone else change their fuel filter as periodic maintenance when the manufacturer stated interval is reached?

No. To begin with the part in question here is not a filter but a screen although both does almost the same thing. It is not a part that should be changed periodically and that is why it comes built into the fuel pump housing. However, it should be inspected, let's say every five years or so depending on the quality of fuel you pump in, possible rust formation in the tank etc., and changed only if necessary. But still I find many tune up mechanics prefer to change it simply not to take a chance with it. In case it it gets clogged then the pump may get over loaded and fail prematurely.

@Rumesh Thanks for the input. As far as I can remember, the fuel filter is located inside the tank for my car. I don't think anybody would want to go through the hassle of removing the tank, fuel lines, getting rid of the fuel pressure before removing etc just to inspect it. Is there anyway to know that its failing without going through all this? or is there a separate fuel filter outside the tank intended for replacing?

As I know fuel pump can be taken out by removing the rear seat in most cars. Please correct if I'm wrong.

I removed my rear seat and carpets, all I found was a cable (with 2 wires) going to the tank and that's probably the fuel level sensor, not the filter.

It is not that difficult to take out the pump but one has to do it carefully so as not to damage the float mechanism ( See maxxarox's comment above) . Other thing is that the pump opening is sealed with a soft glue. This should be sealed again otherwise you may get an annoying fuel smell inside the cabin.

Machan, will PM you. Can you send me the link from which you bought the filter from? Have you installed it?

yessir, I installed it.. got the filter from here.. it was $9.35 back when I got it though :-)

Btw, this filter is not the one in the tank.. this is a separate filter that's connected in the middle of the fuel line somewhere near the drive side rear door; it was pretty blocked when I changed it around 80k km..
