I tried it out and it works.

but I can’t update the maps, I’m not sure if downloading navigation data into the SE card in the system is needed. But the radio remains mostly in Japanese.

if you know how I can change the remaining display to English, thank you.

on startup, it says to put a security code during quick set up.

AFAIK you can't change the pre-set language or load a map of regions beyond japan (but I could be wrong)

Use google translate with your smartphone to configure the player so that quick setup menu goes away
