Is the 2017 Suzuki Swift RS a full hybrid?

Question

Posted

Is the 2017 Suzuki Swift RS, that is sold in the Sri Lankan market as 'hybrid' actually a full hybrid, or a mild hybrid.

All the car sales guys claim it is a full hybrid.

Any way for me to verify this is true?

Thanks.

Any idea in terms of maintenance and all?

A much more engaging drive. Unlike the previous JDM Swift the current Swift feels more or less the same in terms of refinement (previous model swift between equivelant trim levels the Swift felt a bit nicer than the Aqua. the plastics had a better finish, etc...).

If you're planning to buy one make sure it's priced significantly lower than a brand new FronX.

The 1L Swift is essentially a FronX with a less reliable CVT and lower ground clearance.

I've seen 1L Swifts advertised for 9mil and thereabouts when the FronX is 10.2mil, utter nonsense

There isn't anything groundbreakingly different from the previous models. The model even over here in Japan is still relatively new and hasn't had any serious issues (apart from early recalls for minor things). As for parts supplies, etc it is hard to say as the car is new in Sri Lanka. It all depends on the car-market mafia.

However, if what @Hyaenidae is saying is true....I would suggest you look in to the possibility of buying the Fronx instead. It is a much more versatile car (not as fun or spunky as the 1.5L variant but the 1L is still more usable than a Swift for the same price)..

Oh..also...JDM Fronx is from India :D
But more than anything...Fronx is very Star Trekky noh ? (Fronx stands for FROntier NeXt)

exactly my point... I have seen many people asking if the Fronx we get here is from India :D ... same situation with the Baleno few years back.

Effin' hilarious to see Sri Lankans turning their noses up at the FronX because it's "made in India" while Japanese themselves import Indian made FronXes 😁

Not just any Swift, but an 8 year old Swift!

8 years of baking under the Sri Lankan sun from above while cooking on hot asphalt below, running on subpar fuel, patched up with mountains of cataloy, serviced with counterfeit spare parts and fluids by Makabasses who have no clue what a torque wrench is, wiring butchered by electricians who've never heard of heat shrink so they can install a laggy 2GB RAM / 8GB ROM Chinese android headunit, 8 years of the underbody getting pounded harder than a wh-

For 9.4mil

versus a brand spanking new car made in 2025 with similar power and torque specs, more features and an engine and transmission combo + ground clearance better suited for Sri Lankan conditions

For 10.2mil.

I have no words to describe this insanity.

Most banks don't have their own parking spaces... you can see the managers car baking away in front of the bank each and every day

Only issue is in current market Fronx isnt available to go buy and ride home.

BTW i saw one swift full hybrid available in sri lanka . Parts must be rare and hybrid battery there might be a whole new can of worms.

This is an issue with you and not the car. Issues with you can be resolved by yourself if you are determined to do so. Like @Hyaenidae has mentioned...if you waited for 4-5 years without new cars, waiting for another  4 to 6 months to get a proper car you would enjoy is not that long. Even in normal times the delivery of a brand new car through the agents was about 6 months. So why not ?

What is the FULL HYBRID SWIFT ? I don't think the current Swift is offered as a full Hybrid in any region (prev gen had a full Hybrid but didn't sell too well - basetrim drive away price was nearly 2mil yen and the highest trim was about 2.2mil. The mild Hybrid was 300-500 thousand yen cheaper). With the new model It is called Swift Hybrid and Badged as HYBRID but this Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) system is actually a mild hybrid. In the past Suzuki Full HYBRIDs had a dark blue badge and the mild a light blue badge. I am not sure if that still remains.
As for the tech...Toyota and Suzuki have a tie-up to share Hybrid tech so a lot of the things like batteries and Hybrid control systems for their fully Hybrid models come from Toyota.
