Toyota Yaris (Vitz) to replace Prius c (Aqua)

The Toyota Yaris hatch will be available with hybrid power for the first time when it arrives and it will consume less fuel than any other Toyota model.

Toyota announced the first Yaris hybrid will consume just 3.3L/100km, which is less than the Prius (3.4L/100km) and also less than the Prius c hybrid (3.9L/100km), which will be axed by the time the new Yaris arrives.

For starters the 1,395,000 yen Yaris is the Yaris with the old 1L engine (although the engine has been slightly improved). The Hybrid variants start at 1.9mil yen. So when you drive it out of the Toyota dealership in Japan without putting ANY acccessory in your car (no carpets, sunvisors, NOTHING) it will be 2.1mil yen. This is a HYBRID 2WD X grade.

Yes...the Prius C is confirmed to be not sold in many export markets. In Japan, Toyota has not confirmed the abolishment of the Aqua in Japan, but the rumors are that it will be cut off....in fact many in Japan believe, including some things Toyota execs themselves said at the Tokyo Motorshow last year, the Prius line up is soon becoming obsolete. When Prius started, the idea was to offer a Hybrid line up of vehicles. So if anyone wanted a hybrid they go to the Prius lineup. But now that all Toyota models in Japan have a Hybrid variant..people do not need to go for a Prius vehicle.

The new Yaris (i have not driven it but have been in one) feels much better than the Aqua or the old Vitz...only hitch is the Yaris is quite expensive compared to the Aqua...you are looking at a 250,000yen increase in price...

This is interesting though....the expected model line up for 2021 for Toyota has emerged and they are

April, 2021 : Boon/Passo

October 2021 : Aqua

November 2021 : GT86/BRZ

Usually these are based on the platforms currently being worked on and the targeted unveiling periods.....

So there is supposedly a Aqua class car being worked on (and has been in parallel to the Yaris). Now the speculation is that it will have improved power and drive train options of the Yaris giving better fuel economy, etc....

But then the anticipated Aqua might just be a derivative of the Yaris itself...right now all this, including cutting out the Aqua completely, is only speculation. Although it is known that some export models (e.g. Australia, the US is still trying to figure it out) will not have the Prius C

So the typical lankan buyer now has 2 versions of RIP? (Rest In Prius/Rest In Premio)

Imagine a cult being formed by our lankan fanboys to maintain all the discontinued 260s & prius's. It will be fun and all. With meet ups, buffets, road trips, what not. And then comes the ritual, where they perform a sacrifice once a year to Akio Toyoda, by seating a random hardline toyo-extremist in their 'baig intariyal' car, burying the whole package alive, and then a month later, excavating the burial & and scavenging the parts.

Oh what fun!

Well..the Premio will be there....just with a large capacity engine..sort of like a spruced-up version of the Corolla. The Prius line up...there were hints that a new model MIGHT not be developed...but then there are rumors about a new Aqua in 2021...so not sure...

A really good time to open up a psychiatry service :D or a bar....

I hope it's the car, otherwise a month would be too long

For the Aqua, toyota will get rid of the 1NZ block altogether, So the new aqua will most probably get the 1.8L 2ZR-FXE.

Current aquas on the road will be worth their weight in 'beige leather' in srilankan market. I can almost hear the buy and sell folk say "oka 1.8, wadak naha thel bonawa ne"

So far the speculation is that it will continue to have a 1.5L Hybrid which Ford not make sense as the Yaris has one. 1.8 will also not make sense as the Corolla is there (thus the reason why some Toyota execs said the Prius line up is losing sense). Belief is that the new Aqua will have an updated version of the 1.5L...which does not make sense either.
