The Hilux I drive has developed a funny noise from the alternator pulley like the bearings are not running smoothly.Please help what could be the problem?

First try to confirm that the noise is from the alternator. Remove the alternator belt and try spinning the alternator by hand. Look for noise and play on the alternator shaft. Then start the car for a while (after switching off all the electrical load) and see if the noise has disappeared. Check any idler pulley as well.

When you have confirmed that alternator is the source of noise, remove the alternator and replace the bearing. It's quite an easy fix. Two alternator bearing costs about a thousand rupees.

Exactly that: The "bearings are not running smoothly" and one of the pulley's (probably the one you mention) needs to be replaced!

@varotone lists the proceedure to check well, and if that's too daunting: A quick visit to any local mechanic will help diagnose the issue...They'll loosen the belt and feel / spin the suspected pulley to confirm. No big deal...a plain tea and a vade / couple of biscuits, while they mess about and you'll be on your way! 

Also tell the mechanic to check on the condition of your serpentine belt as it'll be a good opportunity to replace that if needed as well.

Is it a uk Hilux? very common issue, 

Replace the idler bearings and alternator bearing as well, also look for cracks around the alternator mounts, common issue again causing belt wear and bearing issues
