What's The Fastest You Have Gone?

I dont entirely agree with you on this peri, doesn't the mere fact that the traffic cops are so lazy and disorganized, and so very unpredictable (you fly past at 120 and they take no notice, but go at 62 and they stop you- personal experience) make a mockery of the speed limits anyway??

and as to your second point, nutters will probably always be nutters regardless of what the limits are don't you think?

No one car Drive below Sri lanka Speed limits and i agree with u if u fly pass 100 they never catch u cus normally i drive to patth twice a week and i never got caught for speeding and always i drive very fast specially galle face rd bt i have seen cops stoping ppl who goin abt 60 and 70

Anyway i know highspeed drivng is very dangerious in Collombo with the tuk tuk's, pedastrians and Cyclists bt high speed driving saves my time bt i know preveen not goin to agree with me anyway nw i use to drive high speed on colombo and proud to be never copped for speeding

I mean, just coz the traffic cops don't do the job, thats no reason to speed. Traffic cops can't catch 100% of offenders anyway, hence the fixed speed cameras that you find abroad. I mean, a cop can be writing a ticket for someone else when u blow by if its ur lucky day :action-smiley-033: But would u risk it being ur lucky day?

preveen trust me speed cameras are useless cus when i visited S'pore one of my friend show me a gud performace shop and thosedays they were moding a Golf and as i remeber that car got abt 420Hp

And i asked the owner hw to drive in s'pore without getting tickets, cus speed cameras are everyware, then he show me a spray can and he told me the only thing u need to do is spray it to the numberpate n its a clear paint, if a speed camera take a pic then the number plate is not visible

and then i search it on ebay and found it

@ Gihan - Thank god for our coppers dnt ya say? hehe..

Does the location of these automated speed traps vary or is stationary? cuz once ppl get used to its location they would automatically slow down n again accelerate no..

Zz

ya man our cops r great even after paying we can easily escape, and yes some cameras r fixed in main junctions and they dont change locations bt there r some hidden cameras anyway i manage to spot one

Malli, we know the thrills, but we also know the spills. Damn lucky not to experience the kills. U know what I'm talking about...

Safe Speed is a relative thing, depends on the car and the driver, so some ppl can be safe even at higher speeds. But .... It doesn't take much.

Gihan....driving fast is fun...but u really gotta be more responsible bro

...it doesnt say much of é character of a person who takes pride in a corrupt system & making a mockery of é few road rules we have...

...é cops can be really unfair - but part of not being an inconsiderate n selfish delinquant is trying to stay otu of trouble , as opposed to delve into it n feel big abt avoiding it

....like peri said...it only takes something somewhere to go wrong to change a persons perspective on being mature n responsible on é rd...

Sure there are. Thats what we thought, and thats what I still think.

But strapping urself into a metal box on wheels full of explosive fuel to go faster than nature ever meant the human body to travel is as much an act of faith as getting into a pressurised steel tube and going blasting across the sky. As long as nothing goes wrong, its all good. That all depends on ur faith. In ur vehicle, in urself and in who-ever u think is looking after u. Heck, I do it too, not like I'm just sitting here preaching.

However, having blood on my hands was enough for me. I don't like the idea of being the one doing the bleeding. I'd prefer to work my speed demons out on the virtual streets like on NFS and keep it sane on the roads.

Like they used to say on G.I. Joe, knowing is half the battle  Be damn sure u know what ur getting into before u get into it.

And enjoy that feeling of invincibility while it lasts. It won't last forever.

Second time im pulling this thread back.... but since the last time i posted have had a few more "interesting: high Velocity experiences....

Namely :

65 MPH (aprox 110 Km/H)- VW Beetle 1969, On Greenpath (believe it or not, Dragging with another Beetle :D)

75 MPH ( aprox 130) - 1959 Austin Healey "frogeye" sprite, down GP again....

190 Km/h - The Jeep, Somewhere between Dambulla and Anuradhapura.

Nice to hear that you thrash the old cars too :) . They thrill more eh? I really miss my cars now that they're being restored. My fastest in the Giulia was 130km/h down McCallum Rd, Lake house to darley road. The engine was worn and the clutch was on the edge for a long time, so above that speed it sounds and feels thrashy.

Did 140km/h in my Fiat 131 S on the same road in the opp direction. Took that nice left hander in the middle with just a dab on the brake pedal on entry. My two passengers were dead silent :D ! We were out running a friend's twin cam Fiat 124 Spider. He generously gave us a head start and regretted  !

I did something like 240 at Baseline rd, 180 at Attidiya Road, around 170 at Galle Road, then did 180 at boralasgamuwa with 3 passangers in the car including AL member Gearhead

cars ARE meant to be driven after all :D....

mcCallum road has always scared me just a bit because people tend to jump across it at unexpected times..... but that bend is really nice, remember taking it at just under 60 Mph once in the 406 (in the dead of night mind you).... to be honest, i thought i had overcooked it there, but no drama at all... just sailed through...

With 6 people in the car as well, 4 of the fairer sex :D

@ Arc, Rock steady machan..... The GC is no crude old Ladder framed truck ya know..... It may not be as good as say an X5 or a Range Rover Sport on the road, but it's still pretty darn good!

a bit scary as pedestrians and fellow drivers to realise that there may be not so mature drivers trying hard to kill someone on the narrow and crowded roads in Colombo and about....especially all these cars not built for speed in the hands of people who obviously are not skilled enough to drive fast in the first place....reminds me the story of the monkey and the bic razor.

Yup i should also say that your's is one of the fastest cars that i have ever been in. The way that your car got up to 180 was just amazing...since i was sitting in the front seat i had a very good chance to monitor the speedo and machang the way it went all the way up to 180 was just superb..

machang is it safe to shift the gears at 8000rpm? bc i saw you shifting all the gears at 8000...

Hey guys,

I have done 100MPH on my very first car Ford Escort 1.3, on a motorway. which I though will never get to 100MPH, but it did eventually as road was free at that time, apart from that,

140MPH on BMW 320i (E46) and

160MPH on Evo IV. Evo is de-restricted and got a digital meter, from 100 onwards it feels nothing just a nice flow.

Beema is a slow starter compared to Evo (clock 0-60 MPH on 5.7sec), but for a motorway it is much comfortable and more on ground as it rolls. Breaks on Beema is much better, for winding country roads Evo handles well (saying that BMW got better handling than most of the cars i driven)

Was a passenger on BMW 318i Coupe' E36 model with K & N induction on hit 145MPH,

Merc C180 not Kompressor (old model) passenger at 135MPH

I am scared when I drive in SL though, everytime i come back home it take about a week to get used to the road rage...

our roads are not that safe, and some silly drivers. You can not say nothing as it is the way we brought up in driving in SL..

Can someone update latest drag event in SL please and seen some old pictures and wonder why they have a passenger sitting with the driver on drag..?

Ah Speed kills... lol
