D = Drive

S = Slope <as per the user manual and explained in it in Japanese>.it sets the rev point higher so that you have more torque when going up hill and more engine braking when going down-hill. Now the fact that most of your engine's torque and hp will be at a higher engine rev range, once the engine reaches high revs you might feel a bit of greater acceleration/pull but that is not because the gear is "Sport" :)

In some vehicles it is Sport and it changes the mapping for the transmission, but not in the case of your everyday Toyota (or most other Japanese econo boxes).
