395bhp Subaru Impreza STI ~ Litchfield tuned Subaru Impreza STI is the hottest Scooby yet

By Stephen Dobie

Is a regular Subaru Impreza STI not enough for you? You aren’t alone – specialist Subaru tuner Litchfield feels exactly the same, hence the Impreza STI Type-20.

car_photo_292095_25.jpg

It’s a super hardcore version of the top-spec Impreza, boasting a fairly insane 395bhp and 375lb ft of torque, the latter available from just 3500rpm. This is all extracted from a 2-litre engine, which gains the scarcely believable boost via a Type-20 twinscroll turbo. 0-60mph is slated at just 3.9sec – a tenth quicker than a Ferrari F430. Top speed is electrically pegged-back to 165mph.

To help handle the extra grunt, the car’s track is widened 14mm while brakes are 365mm Alcon 6-pots. There is new AST adjustable suspension, re-valved steering and a lengthened wheel-base, all in the name of tightening up the chassis and hauling in that extra power to make the STI Type-20 more of the cracker we’d expect.

The car weighs in at £36,995, which includes new lightweight 18in wheels, revised grille, subtle bodykit and the option of some Maserati-style taillights. There’s also a three-year warranty, Thatcham category one alarm and a tracker to balance the package and make things appear a little less loony. It should provide formidable competition to the rumoured Mitsubishi Evo FQ-400…

Hi Guys

I am freinds with a specialist Subaru tuner whose workshop is just a few doors from me, his engines regularly exceed 400bhp, and he races his own scooby, so there is more wolves in sheep's clothing than you imagine here in the UK!

Sorry Friends,

I will not bring anything to SL that I can't carry in my suitcase again. I shipped a box of toys and clothes to be given to an orphanage in August when I came down, and wasted nearly 5 hours of my time collecting same from C*l near the lake house. The idiot's were after a bribe or something what a mess, never again I am not good at mixing with corrupt officialdom I just get mad! and even though I could have pulled strings I don't like that either so I suffered and cursed them at the top of my voice inside their building! I really felt sorry for Sri Lanka's real foreign exchange earners, the people who work in the middle east who were treated like dirt and had their hard earned property robbed by these theiving hooligans to add insult to injury.

 no no HelRazor , i'm not much of a hatch fan at all , BUT i'm a reasonably hardcore Fuji Heavy Industries afficianado even though, strangely i don't actually own anything they've made :(

so regardless of the fact that i'd have much prefered another body style, i yet remain loyal to the Pleiades flat four constellation :)

is that right? well then you should ask these few people who are interested to drop me a mail or give me a call then! ;)

I actually like the looks of the STi hatch. It's looks pumped up with the wide wheel arches and mean in black. Anyway I do prefer hatches to sedans when it comes to small cars.

I prefer hatches too, but I prefer coupes over hatches. Specially with long bonnets and 12 cylinders.... Tho 6 is good too :)

Guys,

Saw this the last couple of days in Singapore.. beautifull design.. IMO it looks better as a hatch than a sedan. From what I heard, they were offering test drives at the showroom..

All in all, probably the best looking hatch I have seen, so far.

It looks good in the flesh no doubt. but what it's not is photogenic.

Got to disagree I'm afraid. Don't get me wrong there's a lot of beautiful super nippy hatchbacks out there like the z4 , the Alfa 145 and the Golf GTI but the new Subaru sti isn't one of them. Despite Subaru's claims that the new hatchback design improves handling I think it looks dull and think the older Sti was way better looking.

If I had the money; and it came down to a decision between the two, despite the new version being faster, better handling, what have you, I'd hesitate over buying the it. But I'd drop my money down on the older one in a heart beat. A chap down the street from me has a new Impreza sedan which looks fabulous. Every time I see that car; I for the life of me, can't figure out why for 2008-09 Subaru didn't allow their customers the option of choosing between a sedan and a hatch Sti like they have done in the past. Maybe I'm not a true enthusiast, as I place a premium on sheet metal over handling and performance; but here's hoping a tuning company like Litchfield will pickup an '09 Impreza sedan and have their way with it so as to give folk like myself an alternative....
