Honda Civic FD1 Type S

Very hard to come by. Most are hacked. Even if you find, they will not be for sale or will cost a fortune (which is not worth considering the age and millage).

I found one, it’s not in the best shape. Done 198,000km. Will need some good spending to condition the vehicle. Priced at 6.8m. Is that worth it given the Type S? I know nothing is worth their prices in Lanka, but given the market and the car and rarity?

Only you can answer this question. Is the rarity of the car and its specifications worth it for you ?
To determine this you need to take in to consideration the following:

  • Cost of parts: GOOD parts can be hard to find locally and may need to be sourced from abroad. Either way...it can add up depending on what needs to be fixed.
  • Cost of labor: Good mechanics are hard to come by. Good ones who are actually motivated to properly diagnose and fix the issue/s properly are even rarer. They too can get quite pricey.
  • Lost opportunity costs: Fixing it is not going to be a one-time deal. It will be an iterative process. Sometimes, the car will be in the garage for an extended period of time. All these times you will have to sort to other forms of transportation. Sometimes the car might even breakdown on you. How much of this hassle are you willing to tolerate ? How much with the emotional cost be for you ?
  • Why do you need a Type S ? Are you buying it because you like the specification and the driving experience it offers? OR are you a Honda fanboy who just wants a TypeS for bragging rights ? What other FD Civic can you get that is actually in good shape and how far off will the ownership experience of one of these specs be from a Type S ? What other car models themselves are available ?

All proper questions. I was in the market for a GP4 when I came across an FD3 that was cheaper than that but was a sedan and heard amazing things about the ride quality, comfort and how the FD series would eat up miles without breaking a sweat. I’m mainly looking for comfort and low maintainance, obviously with an FD series fuel economy is out the door.

While looking around, I loved the Alcantara on the FD3 and the interior in general, but the heard unless the battery is maintained well an FD3 will run into quite a few issues.

Everyone was recommending the FD1 and even better if it is a Type S. So I looked around and surprisingly found none. So after a lot of looking around I found this one and is where I am.

There is one advertised on one of the social networks. Not sure if its the same car you looked at. I think it said the mileage was 152k or something.

Check you messages. I sent you a link
