Hi All,

I have a VW beetle (5 Sri) which will be coming out to road very soon. And I'm planning to get a 3rd party insurance for this. Do you guys know any company to get this done within one day or so?

pretty much all the insurance companies handle 3rd party auto cover.... c******o and SL I******* are the main players overall, so makes sense to go with them.... they all provide service in a day or so now.

However, speaking as a fellow beetle owner, IMHO i think it might be better to go for a full cover, especially if you've spent a lot of time and money sorting it out.... the conditions on the road these days mean that you can never be too careful.

Up to date revenue License, and a copy of the registration book.

If you're going to get it Fully insured, the insurer will need to take a look at the car and give a valuation, as well as check whether engine numbers and chassis numbers match up.

FYI Bugbase, I just checked up on some quotes i got...

for an insured value of 450,000, the premium (all inclusive) will be 15,985.32 annually

Note this is for a Full cover from C*yli*co

Thanks a lot mate for the information... really appreciate the help. I need to get this done as soon as I come down to SL on Thursday...

Thanks again!

Are you a member of the Beetle club? If so check as they may have a special rate. As a member of the Classic Car Club I get a very reasonable rate of Rs. 250/- only for 3rd party Insurance.

wrong.. in case of a third party cover up to date revenue license is not required but the CR / or the book .. in contrary you need the third party insurance prior to obtain the up to date revenue license, and for third party they don't give a dime abt the vehicle, you don't need to take it to them except for the book...

well, C*y*in*o wanted a copy of the revenue license when i was getting third party cover done for my escort...... and if you read the post carefully, you'll see that I have said, "If you're going to get it Fully insured" when talking about taking the vehicle for inspection. <_<

well I never done a 3rd party insurance from c*y***co since SL *ns*r**ce were the pioneers doing it. (3rd party i mean) all you need was to fill a form with the particulars you can find in the book (chassis no, engine no, unloaded weight blah blah) and within 15mins you're done.. in late 90's (98 precisely) it took 3 hrs to get the job done when I did it for the first time but now it's just a matter of giving the book to the person who then captures all information, even to open a new policy it took just 15 mins. and yes I noted the full insurance part when you've put it in bold :angry-smiley-048:

Im not entirely sure I like your choice of emoticons when making your point, The last one especially could be considered slightly offensive.....

as to the subject at hand, I bow to your superior knowledge on SLIA, as I have not dealt with them. C*y*i*c* also did it in a matter of minutes, and threw in a years worth of life insurance as well..... anyway whatever said and done, I don't personally agree much with using third party insurance on a car which you've put a lot of work into, especially if it's going to be driven often. But if its only to be a weekend drive, then third party will work just fine I suppose

well bro one thing to clear out, that there's nothing offensive or personal here .. if you go through all my posts in this topic you'll realize it (or am I bad in convincing)

anyways back to insurance, my opinion is you'll have to consider it with various measures.. I drove couple of 504s daily( since 2000 upto early this year) with third party insurance which was really fine coz parts were not that expensive and very hardly a bumper or body get a dent.. Hope thats common with this beetle .. and the problems in valuation of old cars.. you may not get a reasonable claim even after a damage.

The latest is i'm doin a cost benefit analysis with my 406, in other words the full insurance estimate came around 42k early this year and i'm driving it with a third party to see how much i'll be payin for the damages by the end of year. if thats in excess of 42k i'll go for the insurance from next year  . so far 1 trishaw and 2 bikes knocked from behind and was just bruises.. <_<

Personally, I consider mine a weekend drive, but I have it fully insured. For one thing, the Formula World facility is just the kinda thing for people who don't wanna spend loads of time in garages. Or walking around looking for parts. Its a bit out of the way, but beats the hassle.

thanks kind of a strange way to compare, don't you think? cos your working on the premise that accidents are certain to happen, in which case it's better to be prepared (insured). This year it maybe 1 trishaw and 2 bikes, which would be cheaper than your insurance premium. But next year could it be an 18 wheeler.

anyways, it's your ride bro, so you do as you see fit. In todays driving environment I wouldn't ever take a chance or advise anyone to brave the streets of Col with out insurance. my two cents ;-)

really appreciate that two cents.. true what you're saying is we're dealing with uncertainty .. I wouldn't personally advise anyone to do that.. instead I took a chance and doin it ... most probably I'll go for a full cover by next year ..
