The Japs are never best known for outright beauty when it comes to cars. They excell in other areas like build quality and ultra high performance on a budget. Yet occasionally they produce a gorgeous car that is desirable when at a standstill. After a bit of thinking here is my top 5. Please note that this is visual appeal that we are talking and not most competent, or even what we dream of. It's plain and simple LOOKS!

1. Datsun 240 Z

2. Mazda RX 7 FD3S

3. Toyota 2000 GT

4. Mazda Luce Coupe

5. Toyota Celica TA22

I'll go with your list, except an upgrade with the RX8 (it's more appealing than the RX7)

There was a TA22 Celica in a car sale on Kandy-Colombo road.

The red one you mean after passing warakapola???

I have seen it but hadnt it been there for some time now?

Yep, that's the one, and been there for ages.

I remember it was being quoted about 300K as far as I can remember.

There is an Orange TA22 is poor shape near the P. SARA stadium (The Oval) in the cheapside of Col 08. I see it almost everyday when driving to work or going there for squash. I was mildly interested when I saw it from afar but on closer inspection realized it's too big a project for me to think of right now. But for someone with more time on their hands it might be a car worth saving.

The guy says that it's not for sale - "mama hadhala ganna inne" etc. But I can sense that he's half hearted about it and I'm quite sure he'll sell if you "show him the money".

Not great to drive (nearly bought one when in Oz but a fast roundabout changed my mind instantly :o - And the seller was actually a HAIRDRESSER  ) but it is a good looking coupe. And you probably can do some mods on the sus to make it handle and grip better.

Btw he has a Fiat 127 for sale there, but that one looks quite decent.

hey Gummybr any idea who designed this Sylvia? It looks a bit Bertone-ish and Zagato-ish to me.

I was in two minds too. But fell for the purer RX7 lines. But yes the RX8 is v nice too.

The Silvia 1964 was designed by a German ,Albrecht Graf Goertz .Germans add another name in middle.Cant remember that now.
