Wow...

That's certainly a wake up call! Deepest sympathies to the family of the deceased, and to you for the loss of your friend machan

Drive Safe guys... because no matter how great a driver one might be, there may arise a day we are faced with a situation to which we cannot respond in time, and something like this could be the result.

Ohhhhhhh I'm so sorry 2 hear that machan....

It seems like the car had hit behind a lorry or a bus. By the shape of the steerin wheel I assume he was not wearing the seatbelt.

OMG!!! sad loss... my sympathies to the family and friends.

judging by the steering wheel...the guy would've never stood a chance of surviving this :(

probably he wasn't belted up

My deepest sympathies, by the way was this happened by Colombo Kandy road? One of my work colleague’s cousin brother has passed away last week by an accident on Colombo- Kandy road. He is 31 years old with two kids.

Wear the seatbelts and leave a safety margin, always.

my deepest sympathies machan.

Yesterday night I have seen a very bad accidednt. I will never like to see that type of stuff. A Van just before me which was running probably around 40Kmph has gone over a person who tried to cross the road suddenly without looking the road. I have seen the complete incident and the driver must be no guilty for the accident.

The van has gone over the body of the guy who tried to cross the road. That was the first time I have seen that kind of incident. I will never ever like to remind it even. Fortunately a cope around and he attend to pull the body with help of others around. The area completely flooded with blood came out of the dead body. I had my camera with me that time. But never wanted to share that type of bad scenario with pics. I just wanted to forget it.

However what we has to learn from that is just be careful as much as possible about others on the road. Some people are crazy on roads. No matter how good we drive, still an accident could happen. I can remember the day when I got my driving license, my dad told me "Remember everybody on the road are crazy. You have to survive with them". I think its true.

i heard about another bike accident early this week or end last week...

apparently a speeding CBR has crashed onto a police jeep that was making an illegal U-turn somewhere in Demetagoda...

the rider died on the scene of the accident while the cops have tried to make a run for it.

People in the area have caught the cops and handed them to the police...

this is what i heard from friends...not sure if this is the way things happened...

either way speeding in SL with certain morons on the road is just multiplying your chances of meeting up with an accident. I'm sure i'm not alone when i say that everyday when you drive around in SL you get to see some absolutely moronic behavior from our fellow drivers and pedestrians...

Even those annoying moped buggers who know nothing about basic road rules run riot on our roads

I've had a few close calls with cops and military vehicles/escort jeeps etc also driving around without giving two hoots about other road users...going on the wrong side of the road, U turns at speed, running lights etc etc is nothing for these guys

so true... some pedestrians only look at the opposite direction of the road and not the one their immediately crossing...

last weekend i was driving close to my place and there was this old uncle on a moped riding straight at me on the wrong side of the road... I didn't want to honk like an arse so waited thinking the old timer will see me and take the bloody moped to his side of the road. It was around 11am in da morning with lotsa light around and this bugger just kept coming at me...

I finally honked when he was about 15-20ft away and the all of sudden the bugger realized the situ and cut away... I stopped the car thinking he would fall off or something only to hear nice local filth coming outta the bugger :action-smiley-060: bloody idiots... they go on roads day dreaming and get guys like us into trouble for not doing anything wrong :angry-smiley-048: Had he came and hit me i'm sure all the local thugs would've beaten this $hit out of me for knocking down an old man <_<

I'm sure all of us go through that sorta $hit and even worse sorta stuff all the time

I am sorry to hear about your friend

Did this car originally come with airbags?

I am asking cos I have noticed a scary trend of ppl swapping out safety equipment for so-called performance. ALWAYS wear your seat belts!

Swapping out the steering wheel is not done for performance. Its done so they can tell their friends they have a momo steering, when in fact, its just a third rate piece of metal or plastic manufactured illegally in China.

the plate is a 301- which means this was one of the earlier EK3's, not sure whether they came with airbags as standard... anyway i suppose the airbag would have been useless even if it had been there because the guy was not wearing his seatbelt

edit: actually 301 means 1999... so it isnt an early example, unless of course it was a jap import. still not sure about airbags being standard though....

The story is correct. I heard it from news.

Regarding the moped riders, your opinion is absolutely correct machan. Few days ago when I was towing one of my friends pickup truck, one moped guy came to main road from a lane tried to cross the road straight between two vehicles. Fortunately we were on about 5kmph speed and he managed to stop the bike before hit the tow bar. It was around 2pm and both vehicles were having hazard signals. We have to be careful about those mad guys on road always.
