I'm not sure if this is a restoration or a mod but this vehicle in the classifieds looks kinda nice

photos not detailed but it looks like the guy did some decent work

(Disclaimer: not my car/not someone I know)

Have you ever seen an old car, even an 80s one, which was in such good condition that you just said wow!

and admired the car..

People here love adding hideous body kits.. I wish more people would try to restore cars instead...

Saturn a friend of mine has a Cortina 1.6L engine, still sporting all original seats trim rims and body work and in fantastic condition !

A new paint job and it would be spotless.

In my humble opinion I do not quite like the wheels on this car nor the way the seats were re upholstered. Maybe personal preference but I think you need to use alloys that go with the age on cars like this !

The chrome job does look very good.

the work seems good - i've seen the picturers of the restoration and from those images it looked and seemed like a fair job...

Car was originally Red

I'm with Don on classics being restored back to original spec - if at all he should have gone with some muscle car looking rims with fat white letter rubber imo :)

i take it no one saw this car originally advertised at Rs. 1 Million ?

price has since dropped sensibly to a more realistic figure :)

Yeah, the wheels make it look odd...

good selection ... indeed looks original ford wheels.

the 2nd one is actually a MOPAR special , but they suit the muscle car look of 60's 70's Fords and the like...

just imagine throwing in an engine like the ones on the link into something from that era which can be found here...

I like this version too. There's a garage down my lane & there's a green Cortina which has been ruined by the owner. Call it personal preference but this freak's welded 'Doctor Sunny' rear lights to it!!! The front has not been touched yet, but he'll weld something weird & unsightly to it no doubt.

Sticking to Ford cars, does anyone know about the Orange Ford Escort Mk1 which was advertised in last week's HitAd? It's a two door Escort Mk1 but it does not have the traditional Wide wheel archs found in the Mk1 RS1600. It's a beauty anyway. Wish I could own it!! The black one's a Ford Escort Twincam. It was seen at the Car show in 2007.

thats just sad :(

this is what happen when these cars become budget runners and people who know nothing about them get thier hands on them and make a hash of things! :(

The Black car belonged to a prominent racing personality in the island

runing a 1600 motor on a 1300 gear box..

The Orange car is a blotched attempt at a Mexico replica in terms of the styling imo..

It had a stripped out interior with a race type center pannel with the ingintion switch , fuel pump cut off etc

it 'looked' decent when i last saw it , but i hated what they'd done to the wheel arches :(

They've got osme bits right like the split front bumer , but i can't understand why they didn't just go ahead and try to replicate the bubble arches as it should be , than going with that odd square motif..

but over all the cars seem decent so one can't really complain i guess...

The orange Car might be aiming for a Rally Replica look I'm guessing

just to add a small note: both those cars started life as 1300GTs they've had engine swaps to 1600 Crossflows... Neither are Twincam motors, but they have Weber carbs apparently

Nice to see some good looking used cars on the classifieds!

I shall attempt to persuade my friend to take some pics !!!

There are a lot of gems hidden in the country held by owners who do not fancy a lot of publicity for their rides !

Thanks for the info. There was also an Escort Mk1 RS2000 in the original Blue on White scheme, It was advertised somewhere between January & March. I maintain a list called "Junkyard Jewels" in the back of my diary of the contact details of all performance cars, so if I win a lottery or sommat I could call up & own one!!! Yuk Yuk!!

The orange one looked a bit like a works capri... The wheels archs were kinda similar. I'll attach an image if possible.

Where did you see it? Was it at a race? I beleive there is one genuine Escort Mk1 Mexico which is orange coloured. It was beside the Black Escort at the car show. Now THAT is a beauty!!!

That Mexico is just awesome! :)

Owned & raced by Mr. Ananda De Alwis - he's had it and raced it all throughout its life - if i'm not mistaken it the oldest single owner Mexico in the world thats still being raced competitively :)

i went and checked the Orange car out whilst it was at a Garage off Sarananakara Rd.

its rumoured that there is another original Mexico lying around...

Jaliya you wouldn't mind sharing that list sometime would you? :D

we're you able to have a look at this Mk1 Escort?? is it the real deal?? Orginal RS 2000? :o

...didn't think there were any here...

I'd love to share my "Junkyard Jewel List" with anyone! I couldn't personally go & see the RS2000, but it looks pretty real. It has the blue lines on the hood & sides like on the real one & it's also a 2 door. There is a chance that it might be a replica, but let's keep our fingers crossed!

Not to burst your bubble or anything mate, but it IS kinda easy to Paint on the "RS Stripes".... and two door escorts were available for every model, even the bargain bucket 1.1L! only sure fire way of telling that it is an original is by checking the numbers, as even the Wheel Arch Flares that are signature to the RS and Mexico cars can be done up....

Having said that, would love to see your "Junkyard Jewels" list if you dont mind sharing it... please drop me a mail on [email protected]

Cheers! :)

Another interesting car has come up for sale is the Holden Torana. It appeared in last Sundays papers as well as the current Motor Mag.

These make ideal mini muscle cars. I've seen so many in Oz with the compulsory 3.3 six cylinder transplant and fat alloys. I believe that an engine and gearbox should slot in straight. In fact there is a six cylinder car languishing in a garage in the cheap side of Borella.

Is it? 4 door? I thought 2. Unless there's a 2 dr. hatch as well. I once saw an Opel Coupe of similar vintage and it looked a lot better than this one. It was a light orange......very 70s.
