Is it possible to change the normal air intake system in to high performance intake system in my Mazda Familia BHALP model ?

What are the differences between them ?

There are several Intake types, Cold air Intake, Short Ram Intake, etc, in SL what people do is buy an unbranderd cone filter and fix it next to the MAF, what it do is, it suck heated air insude the engine bay and its uselessfor a N/A, but u can buy K&N high Performance Box filter and replace it for ur stock filter, thats and easy way, or else buy a gud brandard Cone filter, (Apexi is a very gud one and it dosent suck Dust inside) and do a CAI (cold air Intake ) is done to bring the cold air from outside the engine bay into your intake

for bigger engines it does make a differnce even if its non turbo. for smaller engines the differnce comes in high RPM's. i have a cold air intake system on my astina.. its one of the first things i did.. but i have a k&n kit.. hasnt done me any harm yet.. seen a slight increase in fuel effeicency as well. if u are going to do it.. u have to do it right.. so get a good brand and kit..

a word of warning cleaning the filter will have to be done by u.. becuase its an overnight process. of spraying, oiling, and drying...

GihanFX, i think branded filter is good for us. I have checked K&N high Performance filter from MotorCade. Air Filter cost should be around 8500-12500 LKR (depend on the sizes) and have to fix the intake hose separately (stainless steel pipe). Is it possible to fix the K&N filter, to the original rubber intake hose without fixing the stainless steel intake pipe?

K&N Filters are not Dry type Filters, and when u buy K&N make sure u get the cleaning kit, and yes its around 8500-12500 Range, if u can do some internet reserch abt Cold air Intake system for your car, download some pics, get an idea how the pipes bend, lenth etc, then go to a place who bend and weld Stainless steel pipes and do the job properly, just dnt conect small pipe to the filter and fixt it, u dnt need to suck hot air to the engine, all u need is some pure cold air,

I have used, HKS, K&N and now apexi, Apexi dnt suck dust inside at all, what u need to do is remove the filter and check is there any dust inside the pipes, if the breater line conected to the intake, u can see little bit of oil inside the pipes, so check are there lods of dust mix with the oil or not, if the breater line is not conected the dust will go inside with the Air, cus i have seen so many people conect a small filter like thing next to the breater,

In ur case if the breater is conected and no dust inside ur filter is gud, if there are lods of dust inside change ur filter to Apexi or K&N

Ya a K& N will do – I have been having this idea for some time but not been able to implement it – As advertised by many keep the air flow sensor in tact and connect it through that – thus u need to do a bracket to house the air flow sensor.

Go for a good brand like those suggested by other in the forum – A & N Box will also do the trick – try to get much cold air to the place where it draws in air-

I can’t remember where the air inlet is in your model but see if u can make a duct or something where u can direct cold air to the filter box

you can go to the K&N site and search for ur model.. i bought the whole conversion KIT from them.. if its there for the astina which is over 18years old now.. it should be there for u.

Yeah I did the same for my SR20 and got the K&N to fit the stock air box... been running well since i got it, more sprightly and free revving. Saw a mild increase in fuel efficiency too. Time to now invest in the cleaning kit....

This is the model what i have got it from the K&N site for my vehicle model (http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=57-0571). This called Cold air Intake system, right ? It has rubber intake hose. so no need to fix steel pipe instead for rubber hose ?

What are the differences between rubber hose and steel pipe ?

u sure its a rubber hose ? cus seems like its a steel or Aluminium pipe, for intake piping Aluminium is the best, its light weight and cool down very quickly

this is very similar to what i boight.. its the 57i seriries. it only costed me somewhere around 9000 for the whole kit around 4 years ago. but i bought it of a guy who does K&N he was in kirulapone. now he has given it to motorcade and they are very expensive. he said it was not making profit for him..

the hose is flexible aluminum. although u think its rubber.. its now.. ite a fleixible hose.. the horse fetches cold air for the filter from underneath the car.. ur normail intake hose remains the same.. its a 30 minute job.. however i advise u to wrap your ruber hose with mcfoil or any other substance to keep the hose cool... i did this to mine. and pretty good results.. other wise the rubber hose gets very hot.. i evern wrapped my sensor.... :jumping-smiley-013:

Charitha, thanks for the advice. Still I didn’t check the price in this model. Machan, before and after the installation how about the fuel consumption in your car ?

welll it was hard to make a clear prediction. sometimes it would do a little more, and sometimes a little less.. but overall there was a slight increase for me.. but i drive hard most of the time.. so not the best person to talk about fuel economy. :jumping-smiley-013:
